Tech News
- Because of the holidays the next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 10 January 2022.
Recent changes
- Queries made by the DynamicPageList extension (
<DynamicPageList>
) are now only allowed to run for 10 seconds and error if they take longer. This is in response to multiple outages where long-running queries caused an outage on all wikis. [1]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week or next week.
Future changes
- The developers of the Wikipedia iOS app are looking for testers who edit in multiple languages. You can read more and let them know if you are interested.
- The Wikimedia Cloud VPS hosts technical projects for the Wikimedia movement. Developers need to claim projects they use. This is because old and unused projects are removed once a year. Unclaimed projects can be shut down from February. [2]

Application To Join Your Anti Vandalism Team
Hi Cassiopeia, I hope this meets you well. I am writing this message to inform you of my willingness to be a member of your anti vandalism team and be under your tutelage. Thanks.
Amaekuma (talk) 09:37, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
- Amaekuma Good day. Thank you for interested in joining the program. Although you have joined Wikipedia for more than 2.5 years; however, you have hardly edited after 6 months after you had registered. This program is for editors who would like to work on counter vandalism for a long while and fairly active in editing. I suggest you to finish WP:TWA program and make more edits as well as more active in editing prior joining the program. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 04:27, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, My life, like everybody else's comes in phases. These phases determines what takes most of your time, at every point. 3 years ago, I had just rounded up my B.Sc and had a lot of time to myself. Some of which I used to delve into Wikipedia, which I love doing. But coming from a third world country, it was no sooner that it was imperative I fashioned out time to go back into the real world and picked up a skill on the side, to add to my degree, and set up a business to enable me fend for myself. And I am grateful to God for its success. Now I am at the point in life where I am a bit more settled, both financially and socially. So I have the ample time and resources to get back doing what I love doing. That is the reason I reached out to you because now I have the time and I am ready. Amaekuma (talk) 22:24, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
- Amaekuma Ok. Since you have not been editing Wikipedia for almost 2.5 years, I would suggest you to finish WP:TWA program fist to familiar yourself with some basic Wikipedia guidelines. The program will take about 90mins of your time. Once you have done that, then pop back here and let me know and I will set up the CUVA program for you. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 01:34, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
Request for NPP Training
Hi Cassiopeia I'm Idoghor Melody. I saw your name listed at the NPP school noticeboard and I’m approaching you to ask if you'd be able to give me some training on New Page Patrolling. I have been working in AFC for over 2 months now and I have found it both interesting and awesome. I'm however now thinking about branching out and finding other ways to support the project. Looking forward to your Favour able response. Kind regards. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 23:21, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
- Idoghor Melody Good day. Thank you for interested in the program. Pls note that the program do require a lot of your time to read the material/guidelines and working on the assignment. Secondly, although NPP and AfC do share the same guidelines, however, certain processes and how to evaluate the pages (new vs draft) are slight different. Once you have completed the NPPS program and you would like to know the different, we can have a few sessions to discuss about it. I have set up the NPP program for you. Pls read all the guidelines and the communication section at the bottom of the assignment prior answering the questions. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 01:45, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Cassiopeia: Thanks for accepting me as a student. I'll always do my best in reading and working on assignments. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 12:13, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
Notes in MMA records
Saw someone added Derrick Lewis breaking the KO record, into the notes of his win over Daukaus. Is there anywhere that specifies what can and can't be included, or is this up to discretion? Nswix (talk) 06:11, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
- Nswix Good day. Pls provide hist diff so I may know how to answer you. Cassiopeia talk 19:42, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
- Nswix As per WikiProject MMA "The column Notes is meant to be used for information related to the bout, including but not limited to special rules, awards earned, failure to make weight and similar. Do not use it to put irrelevant text such as "MMA Debut", "UFC debut", "Cut from the UFC" or similar text not directly related to the bout." As long as the info fit the guidelines above for as long as the info is "significant and relevant" to "THAT PARTICULAR" fight/bout and an independent, reliable source could be found to support the info added. For this case I would say yes it can be included as source would be found and it is relevant and significant enough which he performed of the bout. - see here source. However, at times, you would see a few long term, active MMA editors would choose to remove some info on the note section even it fit the guidelines above, we could raise a discussion on the article talk page to have a civil and agreement solution. There is a Championship and achievement section on every MMA fighter page, this is where an award/won a title bout/breaking some record can be added and inline citations (sources) to be added to support the claim. Since you are new to the Project (Wikipedia), you might want to observe edits on MMA events and fighters pages to understand some norm or guidelines on editing MMA related pages. I can give you a list of info for you to familiar with the guidelines and norm if you want. Thank you for your contribution and let me know if anything else I could help you. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 02:14, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. Any info or rules you can point me to would be much appreciated. I just figured I'd run it past a more experienced editor, because it was an edit I'd never seen. Thanks. Nswix (talk) 02:19, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- Nswix You might want to archive your talk page instead of blanking the messages as it is not a good idea to remove the messages especially if there are warning messages (not referring to your talk page here) as might raise suspicious when you request for some user rights in the future - see Help:Archiving a talk page for instruction on how to archive your talk page. I will list the info in your talk page, so you dont need to come back here to check the info from my achieve. Let me know if anything else I could help you. Stay safe and best. - FormalDude I do miss the snow especially in the mountain. My car stopped on the highway 30mil from Boston in Christmas eve in minus 25 Fahrenheit many years ago and opt to take the chance and hopped up a 18 wheeler where the truck driver offer to give me a ride to Boston when he saw me walking on the road site and my car parked not far behind in a dark night. (no cell phone on those days but hoping a highway patrol police would see me and assist). Having of putting half coolant and half water instead of just coolant (I just moved from the Louisiana to Boston less than 2 weeks during that time) in my car, made me hitchhike and live to tell the story. God bless the track driver for being so kind. However, I still miss the snow even I dont like the cold. :). Enjoy your holidays. Cassiopeia talk 00:16, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
- Wow, that's a good story! I will admit the snow is peaceful and beautiful. But I too hate the cold! ––FormalDude talk 00:31, 24 December 2021 (UTC)

Re your removal of massive content from a new article that I created (Produce Stakes (USA)) with your declaration rm unsourced. I reversed your edit with my declaration it is fully sourced and that remains fact but for some reason was overlooked and deleted again. I have no idea what you are talking about and need you to provide specifics to support a declaration that it is unsourced. Thanks for your cooperation. Stretchrunner II (talk) 11:10, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
- Stretchrunner II Good day. This is your edit and the info you added back in is unsourced. Pls note that the editor who change/add the info need to provide the source (inline citation) for verification - see WP:PROVEIT and WP:BURDEN. Cassiopeia talk 23:19, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
Cassiopeia, I don't think you understand this particular referencing setup because they vary slightly throughout Wikipedia dictated by article content. And, even within the same subject, i.e. a horse jockey bio. I do realize you may have little or no experience on the subject of horse racing.
First, a Records section was first inserted into Thoroughbred racing articles years ago when someone at W came up with the sortable table. Records never had any references to be found in books, magazines, or internet sites. Any you find in recent years stem from the creation of a condensed Records list at W. (I digress, I'm boasting about W's knowledgeable and innovative contributors). Anyway, Records are taken from the table simply by using sorting. Therefore it is only a properly sourced race table that counts.
Because of the removal of text as "unsourced", I posted the table reference differently for my latest race creation, the Rancho Del Paso Stakes. You will see that the Winners header isn't designed to accommodate a reference and as a result you get a big empty spot with only a tiny reference number. I'm big on article layout for best readability as I regularly wander through Wikipedia without logging in to read articles of interest. There is nothing worse than what I call a "hesitation" spot (aka reading distraction) and you rarely, if ever, find them on professional publications. So, one might suggest that the reference be placed at the end of the Wikipedia article's table. Sounds good, but it only causes disjointed confusion as race tables frequently have numerous notes, i.e. the horse (name) that finished first was disqualified from a win because... etc. etc.
Note, any reader concerned about the horse racing article's table being referenced will already have the answer prior to reaching the table's standardized position. Hence, you will see the race's content and its reference # ("Condensed History of the Produce Stakes") clearly marked for the table as follows:
"One of the more valuable races for two-year-olds in the United States, there was a division for fillies and another for colts and geldings.[1]"
The Belmont Futurity Stakes that encompasses 130+ years in its table is the exact same standardized thing for a race, as is the widely known Kentucky Derby:
"The creation of James G. K. Lawrence, president of the Sheepshead Bay Race Track, the Futurity was originally run with the two-year-old offspring of mares which had been nominated before their birth. This rule remained in effect until 1957, when the race was opened to all two-year-old horses.[2]"
Thank you. If you ever have need of any further info, please do not hesitate to seek input through the a horse racing related article's Talk page that can link you to Wikiproject Horse racing and it's Talk page. Better still, join the project! Stretchrunner II (talk) 01:05, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

- Stretchrunner II The POINT here is that info need to be verified and since you are the editor who put in the info then you are responsible to add the source to support the the claim as this is Wikipedia. If you can find the source that you can put back the info either in the table note section (create one if there is non) or put it at the end of the table. Question about Mercury House (Publishers) wiki page
Hello, I’m the director of the press, and one of the editors who has periodically updated our wiki page. We haven’t looked at the page since we made the last changes, and on looking now see that a lot of cuts were made. One of our authors pointed this out, Lucille Eichengreen, who wondered why her link on the page was deleted.
The current page as edited by you is grammatically incorrect and should be fixed, but we don’t want to incur further cuts so thought we should discuss first.
Most importantly, since 1994 we have been a nonprofit, our DBA name is “Mercury House” and our 501(c)3 name is “Words Given Wings Literary Art Project”. The director of the California Arts Council, on reviewing a grant application, advised that we keep that designation on Wikipedia—it was removed as “unsourced” in your last round of edits.
Our list of authors has been on Wikipedia for over a decade, and is now gone. Other similar presses (Greywolf, to name one) list authors and have nearly identical text to ours, without external references, so we would like to know why this was all deleted and how we can restore it.
Thank you in advance! Best wishes, Jeremy Bigalke 72.35.149.191 (talk) 05:47, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
- @72.35.149.191: Hi Jeremy, Thank you for the above message. These were my edits] and the WP:Lead (intro) is "Mercury House is nonprofit publishing company, founded in 1986 by William M. Brinton.". The removal of the content was because the info was not sourced. Info/Content of the any article in Wikipedia needs to be supported by indepdent, reliable sources for verification. The only source in the article at the moment from Legacy. The page at the moment is considered not notable because the article needs significant coverage of the subject where by the the sources talk above the subject in lenght and in depth in independent, reliable sources to pass the notability guidelines. Legacy source is considered not reliable by Wikipedia. Not notable article would subject to be nominated for deletion. Since you or any of your staff or any of your writers are considered to be conflict of interest, it would be recommended none of you to edit the page. However, you can provide the sources and the body text (as long as it is supported by independent, reliable source and written in simple, neutral point of view) for other editor who have no COI to edit the page for you. Let me know if anything else I could help. Cassiopeia talk 08:17, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
NPP school
Hi, I would like to teach me about NPP so I can become a reviewer soon! Yodas henchman (talk) 17:50, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
- Yodas henchman Good day. The minimum total main space edits to join the NPPS program is 500 and at the moment you have only over 200. Since you are working on counter vandalism, you might want to join WP:CVUA program to understand counter vandalism in Wikipedia better. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 07:16, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

A subject previously asked about I cant find the page tho.
Hello CASSIOPEIA a Happy New Year to you do you remember a little bit ago when I was asking you guys about certain images being uploaded, I am going to need some assistance with one what was the name of that gentleman that you linked to the conversation to help me again? Either way I just need to find out what policies allow us to use the UFC's emblem or something like that it's definitely not free trade but we are allowed to use it on the site somehow I would like to upload the emblem for PFC. Please let me know hope you have a good one.CanadianHistorian(MMA & History) (talk) 00:14, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
Hello just in addition I was reading and we can use the UFC logo for a couple reasons.. Free use is one I believe but there was also this which I believe PFC would categorize under as the emblem is basically the same thing with different letters
