It's time!

[edit]
Hi BorgHunter. Thank you for nominating me for adminship, I have responded to your questions at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Can't sleep, clown will eat me. If there is anything else I can or should do, please let me know. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 20:39, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You need to go to Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/nominate and follow the instructions at the bottom of the page. Good luck. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 21:46, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I voted to support your nomination. If your nomination does not pass, it will likely be because of your relative newness. If so, please strongly consider nominating yourself in, say, May if nobody else has already done so. If you do (or if someone else nominates you again), please remind me. I'll vote again. Your edit record is superb and I think you could make good use of the admin tools. Of course, I'm hoping your nomination passes this time around, but just in case... --Yamla 16:19, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If he fails, I'll be nominating him again in a month or so. That's a little premature, though...he's at 82-ish% right now (even counting BoothyMasssiveego's oppose vote), and an 80% pretty much clinches it. I can't imagine hordes of oppose votes falling in now. Personally, I think if you're voting oppose for a candidate doing this much vandal fighting, you are doing Wikipedia an absolute disservice anyway. Chin up, CSCWEM, you're doing great so far. —BorgHunter ubx (talk) 03:10, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
People can vote how they like. The diservice would be electing someone as admin after being here for such a short time. That would let everyone just be admins and the whole thing crumbles... - Mike Beckham 16:07, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Differing opinions, I suppose. This isn't quite the place to discuss it, though. —BorgHunter ubx (talk) 16:57, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Dont talk down to me :) - Mike Beckham 12:25, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

With a great deal of input, my first article from scratch is up for Featured Article status (self-nominated). Feel free to visit and vote! RadioKirk talk to me 19:23, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RFA Question

[edit]

I added a new question to your RFA. Dragons flight 06:20, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

nice work

[edit]

You caught me on the Billy Ripken and Steven Wright edits (ok, vandalism). I was being disrespectful but I have to say, I'm impressed by the capacity of the system to repair itself via a user community that cares about it. I'm still very skeptical of the concept of user editable content, seems a magnet for abuse from the bored and antisocial, but I've decided not to continue being one of them. I had some choice edits in mind for the Bobby Fischer page (anti-Semitism, paranoia, America bashing, fun fun fun) but because the user community seems capable of keeping up the integrity of the encyclopedia, it's a useful resource and I'll treat it with respect from now on.

Best of luck to you!

[edit]

Hi CSCWEM, I just wanted to drop by and wish you the best of luck in your current RFA. I would vote myself, but I don't feel I have enough expirence for them to take my vote seriously.

I've seen you around a lot the past few days while I've been on RC Patrol myself, and I really hope someone like you is made an admin, to help in the ongoing fight of vandalism. --Lightdarkness 20:08, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Any registered user can vote, Lightdarkness! Though if you're very new, the closing 'crat may discount your vote, it certainly couldn't hurt. Never be afraid to make your voice heard! (Wait, you first edited in '04 and you have nearly 500 edits, and you're worried about not being taken seriously? Don't be absurd! You're fine.) —BorgHunter ubx (talk) 03:13, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Just wanted to stop by and wish you luck as well. From your answer to Question 4, I think you get where I'm coming from (after all, I turned down nominations for nine months - and 32,000 edits - before I felt ready for adminship). But, I think you'll get over the hump in this round, and will make a good admin. But take it slow and steady! BD2412 T 04:47, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Email response time

[edit]

Sorry to hear that you are opposing me partially due to me not replying to your email within 24 hours. [1] This is partially due to a Wikimedia bug which is delaying my email, and I will be reporting it to the developers promptly. Please note, for the record, that I did respond within 24.5 hours.  ;-) I believe the problem is due to the length of my email address, which is about 40 characters long; it appears to be attempting to send to Can't.sleep@srv17.pmtpa.wmnet first, which is not my address, and then eventually it sends the message to me a few hours later (when I'm not editing Wikipedia, which explains why I did not reply to you while I was editing). For whatever it is worth, I have just installed Gmail Notifier so I am instantly notified when the Wikimedia servers finally get around to forwarding along my mail. Thank you again for bringing this to my attention. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 04:04, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I am willing to forgive you for the delayed email thing. I must leave the oppose vote for right now while I go through the rest of your contribs based on time. I'll let you know when I am finished and have a decision. Thanks. --LV (Dark Mark) 04:09, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I can appreciate that. I am going to try changing my preferences to an alternate email address to see how long it takes to send to a non-Gmail domain account. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 04:15, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Archive?

[edit]

Hi, I just wanted to ask something, when wikipedia pages are over long like this and many talk pages they do freeze browsers sometimes so I just wanted to know if you it was possible to archive older discussions. Mike 09:16, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the revert

[edit]

Thanks for that. - Akamad 10:23, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this, too.  ;-) Can't sleep, clown will eat me 10:28, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As numerous others have said...

...Best. Username. Ever. Love seeing your name pop up when I'm doing RC Patrol. Keep up the good work! (As if that would be an issue!) --Blu Aardvark | (talk) | (contribs) 10:54, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just passing

[edit]

Greetings! I was just passing, having never said hello before, even though I have admired your work around the Wikipedia. While I'm here, I just wonder if you have ever considered archiving any of your huge talk page?! I'm sure you know how to, but if you are in any doubt just drop by my talk page and I'll be pleased to advise you. Best regards, RobertGtalk 11:48, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, OK, I can take a hint.  ;-) Here goes... Can't sleep, clown will eat me 11:49, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clown notice

[edit]

Are you aware that someone has posted a somewhat inaccurate notice on this talk page? ;-) NoSeptember talk 12:38, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone saw my note and deleted it. I think a notice there is a good idea, someone may end up there doing a search for you, it just shouldn't indicate that you are the subject of the article. NoSeptember talk 13:06, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I deleted it, I didn't think it was neccesary. Even if you dont give the name woulden't they guess it anyways? Mike 13:13, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
To a newbie, the concept of starting with "User:" can throw you off, plus there are multiple redirects for various spellings of the phrase. So a link would make it easier I think, but not a big deal in any case. NoSeptember talk 13:24, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think I may be mistaken but did you call me a "newbie" ? Mike 19:05, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, I wasn't calling you a newbie :o. I was thinking back to my newbie days, and even today I am not thrilled with the wiki search function, so someone with a long (and prone to be misspelled) username like Can't sleep.... can sometimes be hard to find. Cheers, from a former newbie :-) NoSeptember talk 19:57, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm.

[edit]

I was wondering if you'd like to semiprotect your user page? --BorgQueen 15:50, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What so people cant post this rubbish?

Cheers for restoring my user page. Looks like I touched a nerve with Peter Chou... (But in return I get to talk to the coolest-named user name on Wiki! Preen!) :-) JackyR 01:15, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FYROM

[edit]

What is your problem? Wiki isn´t propaganda platform!!! --Asteraki 15:35, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That is true, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for propaganda. How is providing an image of a flag and saying that "The Vergina Sun is a symbol hotly disputed among Greeks and Macedonian" propagandist, and why did you remove this content? [2][3] Can't sleep, clown will eat me 15:40, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In July 1995, Greece lodged a request with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for exclusive intellectual property rights to the Vergina Sun [4] [5] [6], [7].--Asteraki 15:46, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That is fine, but can you please explain how stating something is hotly disputed turns Wikipedia into a propaganda platform? Can't sleep, clown will eat me 15:51, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And i`m from Greek Macedonia , i´m Greek Macedonians (Μακεδόνας Makedónas) and i know what is truth und what ist propaganda...!--Asteraki 15:57, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

KALISIA ARTICLE

[edit]

The text in the biography part is actually taken from the official site so it'll be a good idea to delete that part alone and leave the article as a stub for the time being! The discography part is accurate so it shouldn't be deleted.--Wikipedian DOG 13:04, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Can't sleep..., for your support in my RfA. A couple of days ago I decided to support your RfA, but wait until mine was closed to do it. You've got a real nail-biter going there even though everyone agrees you have been doing good work. I look forward to working with you in the future. I will do my best in my new role and welcome your feedback. NoSeptember talk 13:11, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hello! Always remember to delete text that you suspect of copyright violation; also, it's best to subst the copyvio template. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 11:37, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I will be sure to remove the offending text, I just located another copyvio created by User:Jack71483. I would prefer not to subst the template though if that's alright. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 11:41, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clown Fear

[edit]

On your userpage I removed the userbox that suggests this user might fear the clowns, I put the wrong darn link in the edit summary, meant to link your archive, instead I linked to userpage/1 d'oh. Anyway, what is your pleasure - userbox or userbox?, I gathered from it not appearing that you couldn't digest it...ducks --Alf melmac 22:14, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good luck on your nomination

[edit]

It appears that your nomination has been holding steady between 75-76% for the past few days. Its all in the hands of the bureaucrats now. If you don't make it this round, there are a number of folks who would be willing to renominate you, myself included. Good luck and best regards, Hall Monitor 00:01, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute resolution

[edit]

Hello, I have seen your name on various pages around Wikipedia, and wanted to ask for your assistance in a dispute that I have been having with User:DreamGuy, who has been making repeated personal attacks. I have been attempting to follow the dispute resolution procedure, such as by attempting to first work it out with him on his talk page, but he responds by just repeatedly deleting my comments off his page (links to history pages here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), and then continuing the personal attacks elsewhere, such as by accusing me of harassment. I have been advised to get other opinions on the matter, and I have more or less randomly chosen you (since I recognized your name on the "Request for adminship" page). Do you have any advice on how I should proceed with my quest to get DreamGuy to stop the personal attacks, and/or engage in a good faith discussion? Thanks, Elonka 03:16, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You want Can't Sleep to help you with Dream Guy? Is this a theme request? --Doctor Nicetan 03:18, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is this a roleplay thing?  :) No but seriously, if a dispute cannot be resolved amicably through user talk, I believe that the next step should be to bring the matter up for discussion at Wikipedia:Requests for comment. Failing that, there is Wikipedia:Requests for mediation, and if the issue isn't all that serious, you could always begin with the informal Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal. Does that help? Can't sleep, clown will eat me 03:31, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, I hadn't noticed the sleep/dream connection. Hmm, maybe my subconscious is trying to tell me something... Anyway, thank you for your advice. I have made another good faith effort to resolve things at User_talk:DreamGuy. If he responds in kind, I'll try to work it out that way. If he just deletes the message again, I'll try for an RFC. Would you be willing to at least set a watch on his talk page, and monitor the discussion? Having a third party checking to see that things remain civil would be helpful.  :) Elonka 03:55, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
