Hi. I applaud your bold initiative on the Characters of Lost article, and am in favor of splitting the article by individual characters. However, before engaging such a drastic reformat as you've started, it would be appropriate to review the extensive discussions of the past number of months at Talk:Characters of Lost and the particular thoughts by many of the editors at Talk:Characters_of_Lost_(New_Format). For example, "Kate Ryan" is the name currently used for Evangeline Lily's character, as per broadcaster ABC Television (see the extensive bios section on the "official" site at: http://www.oceanicflight815.com/)

Thanks and good luck! LeFlyman 08:17, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the prompt reply. Again, I think the Kate Ryan issue has been heavily discussed in Talk:Characters of Lost. It would be original research to use a character name that is contrary to what the series producers/creators themselves use. The name on ABC's sites, IMDB and in media packets is "Kate Ryan" -- Kate Austin was her childhood name. While she does go by a number of aliases, it may very well be that "Ryan" was the surname of her ex-husband, however that has yet to be revealed. To avoid confusion between the character name and the real-world singer, I'd suggest that character entries be in a different title format, something like: Kate Ryan (Lost). This should be taken to the talk page for the article, of course. LeFlyman 19:35, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

Keyboardist-stub

I have analyzed the situation and found nothing wrong with the template or with the category, so I would suggest that you brought this up at the Village Pump, since a problem might have happened at the category's formation, for example. Regards, --Sn0wflake 19:45, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Surnames

Hello,

I just got myself started in Wikipedia stuff; I was searching for other Quakers and found the "Quaker Wikipedians" category. Noticing it wasn't listed under "Wikipedians by Religion," I made it so. :)

Your user page says you do such things as reorder names by Surname; commendable thankless task. :) Maybe you might have some idea why, on "Category:Quaker_Wikipedians", my name shows up under "U" for User:DAllen? Yours doesn't, but User:AJR does. I suppose I could go ask somebody in "Help".

Anyway, I'm mostly just saying Hi.

DAllen\talk 05:55, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Heh, I love it when I answer my own questions. I figured out how to fix what order to sort, via a trailing "|DAllen" in the category link. DAllen\talk 06:18, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply; honestly, if you replied earlier I wouldn't have seen it until now anyway :) ...It seems odd that we can't get updates-via-email or even RSS, requiring us to check the site itself. Talk to you later, DAllen\talk 14:55, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I read your question about the missing Boomers ... ;-) Regards Roland2 15:42, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Boston cream pie

The points that you were concerned about in Boston cream pie appear to have been due to vandalism on the article by anonymous user 65.117.52.169. I have attempted to undo those updates and so I also removed the accuracy tag on the article. --Big_Iron 20:34, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

You're right about the potential value of the article, of course, but it's important to note that the article I deleted was at "Willie whistle", not "Willie Whistle", where an article on this person should be created, if anywhere. Deb 18:31, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

Sun's full name

Sun's page is currently located at Sun-Soo Kwon. As a Korean, the name looked wrong, so I did some research and couldn't find any official sources to back up the name, and instead found an IMDB entry where her name was listed as Sun-Hwa Kwon. I've seen other sources where the character is listed as Sun Paik. So her full given name is definitely Sun-Hwa, Sun-Soo being probably a mistake due to analogy with Jin's full given name being Jin-Soo (which is like expanding "Ken" to "Kenjamin" by analogy with "Ben" and "Benjamin"). The issue though is which surname to use for the article. In Korea, women do not take their husbands' surnames, so unless Sun has legally changed her name, her correct legal surname is still Paik. But perhaps Kwon is acceptable as an anglicized version of the name to help viewers who might be confused that the couple have different surnames. If you have an opinion on whether the page should be moved to Sun-Hwa Kwon or Sun-Hwa Paik, then please leave a message on the Talk:Sun-Soo Kwon. Thanks. --219.254.220.163 06:16, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Deletion

I got your message, but I left shortly after I deleted that. And it's already deleted again, so I guess we're good. :) Accidental re-creations usually do not last long, the people on new page patrol pick them up rather quickly anyway. --Phroziac(talk) 20:45, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

SS Maritime Victory

you added a comment that the article on the SS Martime Victory was a stub about a civilian ship. The Martime Victory was a USAT Victory ship owned by the Army, now in the Ready Reserve Fleet (though it may be sold for scrap).

I ran into this on your user page

" Also do a lot of minor efforts involving categories, where I make sure people are alphabetized by surname rather than given name. Sick, I know."

Did you know that in Iceland phone books are alphabetized by first name? Be careful lest you be labeled an Americocentrist. Or a Britocentrist. Or worse. Carptrash 07:02, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

Duly noted. But most other European countries alphabetize by last name/family name. The same is true—I believe—of India and Arabic countries. Where I'm not sure, I leave it alone.Bjones 13:56, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi there

Why the deletion of the content from interest to interest (finance)? You also redirected the interest finance to the old interest page?

Primary dealers

I took off the dynamic list tag from Primary dealers as it didn't seem to appropriate to ask people to change the list, when there is a link given to the official list. Also in the link is a list of about a dozen changes since 1999, which are mainly changes of names or due to mergers. The list is just not that dynamic and the purpose of the article is not just to list them.

Personal page edit.

Good day.

You recently posted the boilerplate welcome message on _my_ user page. Did you by any chance miss that I had a talk page for that reason? Reversion

This is to remind you that the action to my user page has yet to be undone... Folajimi 04:56, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Let me get this straight. You contacted a random user who apparently has access to the rollback capabilities of the system, then made no attempt to follow up on the issue. Did it ever occur to you that the user may have just ignored you? Simply saying that you "made a request to an admin..." and dropping the matter hardly qualifies as an attempt to rectify the situation; we both know that there is more than one user with the proper privileges.
Your apathetic response to this matter is duly noted. "...If he hasn't responded..." as a response is, in a word, insulting... Folajimi 14:12, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Request for edit summary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 27% for major edits and 57% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 04:01, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Copyvios

Hi Bjones. I saw that you tagged Alex Dempsey with {{copyvio}}. Just as a reminder, according to WP:CP, you should blank the copyvio article when you tag it with {{copyvio}}. This is so that the current revision is no longer a problem, and so that Wikipedia mirrors won't pick up the problematic text. — TKD (Talk) 13:56, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

My very first article in Wikipedia and wasn't sure how this tag appeared. It's now clear. Well at least it's clear I seem to be making one or more fundamental formatting/style errors. Bromadiolone

Hello, Bjones. I saw that you tagged bromadiolone for wikification. Unfortunately, like many articles so tagged (perhaps half, especially if substubs are not counted) it is a copyright violation. If you are interested, I have some advice on how to spot copyright violations and identify the source. In this case, the things that stand out most about this article are that it looks like, and is, a chemical information document rather than an encyclopedia article and the enormous amount of spacing between paragraphs (an article that repeatedly uses multiple blank lines is likely to be a copyright violation). Thanks, Kjkolb 11:19, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

I got the text in, but did not finish it. Wikipedia is lagging horribly and it's taken an hour so far. Yet somehow you get it so fast that you move it before I can finish it. I will finish it once the lag finally stops. Right now I have waited 10 minutes just to view the new page you moved it to so I can add the pictures I uploaded. Yes, your speedy move has made me wait 10 more mintes. DyslexicEditor 19:03, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

I've tidied up this article, but it seems like a jolly feeble "urban legend" to me. Should it be nominated for deletion? - Runcorn 20:49, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

I honestly don't know. The article isn't a hoax or utter nonsense, as I first suspected. There are several citations of the "Beast" on the web, and I added a link to one. But whether or not it's notable is a debatable point.Bjones 23:25, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

That's just a phrase I use for lack of a better one when an edit will or could change the articles place in the alphabetical order of a category. In this case, I changed the text so that that the novel would show up under G for "game-players" instead of "T" for "the."Bjones 12:36, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Joni Mitchell and Shelly Manne??

Hello, Bjones. Just saw your addition of Joni Mitchell to the list of singers Shelly Manne performed with. I've followed Shelly Manne's work for a long time now, and have never had an inkling of this. Are you sure it isn't a mistake? If not, I'd love to know what Mitchell album Manne performed on. (Assuming it was an album and not a TV show or something.) Thanks, Alan W 03:25, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

OK, I see that you deleted the mistake. Thanks. In a way I'm disappointed. As you can probably tell from my heavy contributions to that article, I'm quite the Shelly Manne fan, and I was all ready to run out and buy a copy of whatever Joni Mitchell album he might have played on. Oh well. I didn't think it was likely, but it wasn't a total impossibility.
