Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:58, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

emma freud

[edit]

Hello there, i noticed you removed the referenced entry about emma freud's name and rhyming slang on account of it being 'not encyclopaedic' im unsure what you mean by this (in the context of wiki rules) and have never seen anyone else suggest something similar; regardless there is precedent with other names also being described as such on wiki (pete tong etc). I have put back the entry, please consider this a courtesy notice to that affect. If you disagree with the inclusion i'd be happy to have someone senior to both of us arbitrate.Zaq12wsx (talk) 16:06, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lowell High School

[edit]

The Verifiability policy requires material to be accompanied by a citation of a reliable source, and in each article in which that material appears. Merely mentioning material in one article does not constitute a citation in another, since that's circular sourcing. Sources have to be those independent of Wikipedia. If you can find a source for Carol Channing's attendance, and others like her, then you can improve Wikipedia by adding it to both Channing's article and by restoring Channing's name to the alumni list in the Lowell article, with the same accompanying citation.

As a show of good faith, I've looked for a citation for Carol Channing's attendance at Lowell. I've added that citation (along with her graduation year) to her article, and restored her name to the alumni table in the Lowell article. But the same has to be done for rest before they can be restored there. Nightscream (talk) 16:58, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My appreciation for your efforts to improve the article for Lowell High School (San Francisco). My sincerest sympathies for being forced to deal with Nightscream, who disruptively removes easily sourceable content rather than simply tagging or adding sources, as specified by policy. Let me know if you need any further help with this article or in dealing with other such editors. Alansohn (talk) 00:09, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the kind words on my talk page. I will be taking out the entry for Stafford Repp for now, as it is backed exclusively by sources from imdb, a user-updateable site that is not appropriate for use as a Wikipedia reference. I do see the scholarship listed on the Lowell alumni site, and I will continue my search for an appropriate reliable and verifiable source for Repp. Thanks again. Sorry about the removal of Adrian Lamo, Bartash. I don't know how that happened. Thanks for restoring it, and for your genuine efforts to improve the article. Nightscream (talk) 11:54, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
