a useful WikiProject, perhaps

[edit]

Hi Aunt Amanda, I just read your user page and that is an admirable reason to contribute to Wikipedia. As well as the general newcomer links that Chooserr added above, I would like to point you towards Wikipedia:WikiProject Clinical medicine. WikiProjects are a way for Wikipedians with similar interests to get together, share information and have joint projects. I'm sure you know more about biliary atresia than any of the doctors and other folks who have listed themselves at the bottom of that page, so you may want to let them know that you're around. If you have questions about the "wiki" side of your contributions (normal formatting, links, etc), please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Regards, BanyanTree 05:00, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

Chooserr and BanyanTree,

Many thanks for the welcome and the references, which are fascinating and very helpful. The wiki medicine project link had a sample general outline for disease articles which will be a nice starting point - I was thinking along similar lines myself but it's great not to have to start from scratch.

It is, however, going to take a while to get used to all the specialized notations, etc. But I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually, right?!

Your contribute

Thank you for your contribution to my page on Catholic Writers...:D. Chooserr

Hello

[edit]

Hi Aunt Amanda, was forwarded your name by BanyanTree as you had an interest in biliary atresia. I'm a gastroenterologist and would be happy to review any additions you make. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Making a new header: ==Header== ===Next level header===. Example: ==Causes== or ==Epidemiology==
  2. Wikify the first instance of any medical term by placing the term withing [[square brackets]]. For example: [[gall bladder]] becomes gall bladder, creating a wiki-link
  3. WP:CITE is the guideline for citations. I would try to reference any addition you make with the following <ref>Authors. Name of article. Journal and citation. PMID number</ref> within the article text. I can help with this.
  4. italics is like this: ''italics''. bold is like this: '''bold'''
  5. I'll keep an eye out for biliary atresia and help wikify things that you add. You sound like you have read a lot about the topic and it would be great if you could add your referenced knowledge base.
  6. Finally, please free to add your name to WikiProject Gastroenterology which is trying to improve gastroenterology based articles.

I couldn't resist wikifying your user page. If you look that the diffs you can see what I did and it might explain a few things in terms of editing. Take Care, Nephron  T|C 06:13, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Liver Families

[edit]

Hello. I am the user who proposed the Liver Families article be deleted. I just wanted to drop you a note thanking you for making an attempt to add content to the project. As you have correctly gathered, this encyclopedia is only for articles on subjects that have been covered by reliable third party sources. This excludes many worthwhile subjects from the encyclopedia, but it is also what distinguishes this encyclopedia from a web directory or other type of site. I'd like to wish you the best with what sounds like an outstanding support group and also express my hope you will stay and contribute on the encyclopedic topics you are familiar with. I haven't actually considered the sex of most of the people I have dealt with here, but I think you may be right about most of them being men. I'm not sure why it would be that way. As far as your contributions go, I think you'll find that you'll slowly learn the policies by doing exactly what you're doing. Being bold with the understanding that you might make mistakes is one of the principles of this project, so go right ahead and do what you have been doing. The worst case scenario is that what you do will be undone. Erechtheus 18:27, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
