History template
[edit]Hi Arad,
I saw that you recently added much to the History of Iran article. Kudos for your diligence. I doubt that this will do anything to clean up the main article, alas, as there are some very vocal critics that are getting pretty nasty towards anyone that suggests anything close to WP:SIZE standards. We'll need to get WP:Rfc on this to get anywhere.

Xerxes
[edit]The picture doesnt necessarily imply that what is being depicted actually happened.
It only reflects what the artist (an early European or American orientalist) thought of Xerxes.
Use it how you think is appropriate. We can actually use it on the Anti-Iranianism article (showing how biased they thought of Persia) perhaps. --Zereshk 00:53, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

However, I do feel that we have a preponderance of article-affiliated views... I'm going to see if I can find some neutral editors to comment. Regards, Djma12 20:49, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. We are trying to keep the article size small. If you think that article you want to add is better than something else there, it might be better at this point to bring it to the discussion area, so we can weigh in on whether it presents a better statement than something that is already there. We have spent the better part of two weeks trimming it down; we don't want it to get all bloatd again. Arcayne 04:09, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

You're misunderstood
[edit]Sa.vakilian, you're info about Britain and teen pregnancy was totally irrelevant. And that's a common problem we Iranians have. We compare our selves with other advanced countries just to prove we are advanced too. --Arad 01:15, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think this is a myth that they're advanced country. They just can make better technologies which result in more power and then they use their power to force their ideology. I've never wanted to compare ourselves with them to pretend we're advanced too. You may think I'm ignorant person who can't judge correctly because of dogmatism but I should say I've read their books as well as Islamic books. I've read and reviewed Lerner's book - "Passing of the traditional society"[1]- and I can send it for you. We can discuss about this issue in talk:Development.

Hi Arad, not sure where you'll see this first so I've copied it from your Commons user page. Per the Commons deletion request for this image, could you ask Mehran to re-render it image with a non-copyright/trademarked image on the glasses? It seems unnecessary to have the Stella logo there when that's treading a grey area in copyright terms and isn't strictly needed in order to illustrate the effect this render demonstrates. Thanks, --YFB ¿ 01:10, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Could you tell me when we all agreed to this change? Some of those images come from wikimapia, which is copyrighted (thus uncompatible with GFDL) and some other sources, which seems to come from books or other copyrighted websites. Missing image Image:Yellowstone Castle Geysir Edit.jpg
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Yellowstone Castle Geysir Edit.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Yellowstone Castle Geysir Edit.jpg is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Yellowstone Castle Geysir Edit.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Hello, you have supported to the promotion of the image Image:Grande Arche de La Défense et fontaine.jpg to the Featured Picture status, and I thank you for that. Currently this image has been proposed to deletion by another user under the pretext that there is no FOP in France.
I believe that the image is not a copyright infringement; the main subject is the water from the fountain, the Grand Arche is unavoidable in the background. In what the lightning of the fountain is concerned, as you mentioned in the original nomination, they are very simple and they do not have a special plan, so they cannot be copyrighted.
If you wish you can express your opinion on this issue on the deletion request page of this image, otherwise the image could disappear soon; after checking I've seen that the image is already used in around 150 pages around international wikis (usage check), I believe it would be a pity for the community to see it disappear.

[edit]- I just wanted to stop by to say sorry (albeit briefly) for the comments on your recent FPC. Simply, the words I called you were not chosen to be hurtful (I think they may have been taken that way). They were chosen to be illustrative to what I felt the nomination said to people who are earnestly trying to make constructive contributions. Please don't take the words to be an attack on you personally (that is not how they were intended) but one your actions in this case. Further, if you decided that wikipedia is possibly worthwhile once again, I won't hold this against you. Best wishes. -Fcb981(talk:contribs) 22:16, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

However, a note of this disruption is warranted, so I'll leave this warning template here. From my long hours of vandalism busting, this seems like the only action that should be taken for the moment:
Please do not introduce incorrect information into articles, as you did to Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Murano Glassware. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. Replaceable fair use Image:Ebi-Navid-Omid.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Ebi-Navid-Omid.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Stifle (talk) 12:54, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

Thank You for Wikipedia Freeware Picture
[edit]Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture (http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/File:View_from_Cairo_Tower_31march2007.jpg). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:
http://www.freeenglishsite.com/
I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm
2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm
3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm
Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.
Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely, Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Farsi help needed
[edit]Hello Arad, I'm contacting you because we need some Farsi translators to help with the deployment of the new VisualEditor on fa.wikipedia. There are help pages, user guides, and description pages that need translating, as well as the interface itself. The translating work is going on over on MediaWiki: Translation Central. I also need help with a personal message for the Farsi Wikipedians. If you are able to help in any way, either reply here, or head over to TranslationCentral. Thanks for your time, PEarley (WMF) (talk) 19:46, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
File source problem with File:Nadir Shah.JPG
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Nadir Shah.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 (talk) 21:21, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Majles.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Majles.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 08:37, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:10, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Please stop your disruptive editing.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor, discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page, and seek consensus with them. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant noticeboards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. Ayıntaplı (talk) 18:05, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Iranian Azerbaijanis. Ayıntaplı (talk) 21:11, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- I consider this a tactic to put a gag order on certain editors. You have been blocked before for using Wikipedia as a battleground. And you are doing it again. This is your warning to stop. --Arad (talk) 23:19, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
