Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Aksmphotography", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it implies shared use. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. Wug·, The username is a code of initials and the user's passion for photography combined. Not "shared-use". Thank you for being vigilant and coming across this, but it is not meant to violate policy. Aksmphotography (talk) 22:14, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Good to know! My worry is that the name looks like that of a company, and other editors or administrators may think it violates policy (even if that's not your intention). If only to prevent future misunderstandings, you may still want to consider a new username. Either way, thanks for your contributions, and I hope you stick around! I second what Wugapodes said. Until checking the talk page, I almost blocked you. I do hope that you stick around though! --TheSandDoctor Talk 19:10, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am going to have to issue a block here as you appear to have taken advantage of our good faith and lied about the origins of the username per aksm.org. It is a company name. If you want to contribute images your company owns to our site, that is fine as long as you abide by our username policy and rules on promotion. Please be advised you need to comply with the request at your Wikimedia Commons user talk page for us to host this, or any future images you wish to release (we have to confirm you do in fact own the copyright, and are not impersonating the company). • User:TheSandDoctor I am not representing the staff or the company directly on Wikipedia and I am not being compensated for my edits to Wikipedia. I am the creator of AKSM Photography after my personal interest in photography and wish to be able to do so without being compensated for my edits. I am not also "impersonating" the company as I created the name. I have filed a request to have a new username and I hope that helps. As stated before, "the username was a code of my personal as initials (as I did not want my name public) and my passion for photography combined". Please see that the username was not a "lie" nor a ploy to "take advantage of good faith". I hope you can see this. Thank you for your understanding. I will also request that our company does make their own page for their invested interests. However, this is my own personal page thank you. Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia with this username. This is because your username, Aksmphotography, does not meet our username policy.
Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below) and continue editing.
A username should not be promotional, appear to represent a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account. However, you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this notice, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. TheSandDoctor Talk 19:14, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Aksmphotography. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Aksmphotography. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Aksmphotography|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Note, that after you change your username, you will still have to adhere to this requirement per the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

We already have a user by that name. Please pick another username and edit the above template with your choice. PhilKnight (talk) 15:18, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
