Question :^)

[edit]

Hi Andy! I have a question: I noticed that on any pages history, many people write a little arrow (like this →) and when I click on it, it leads me to another page. What is it supposed to do and how do I put it on my edit summeries? Write back soon, please. loulou 19:11, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to thank you for your support in my recent request for adminship, which passed unanimously with a final tally of 38/0/0. I appreciate your trust, and will do my best to uphold it. Don't hesitate to let me know if you ever need anything. — TKD::Talk 05:19, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Andeh! Thank you for supporting me during my recently concluded RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of 77/2/0. I hope I live up to the confidence you have shown. I'm still exploring the new tools, so feel free to tell me of any mistakes I might make. In case you need help with anything, just leave me a message. Bot

[edit]

Hi Andy, Is there any way of keeping your bot away from my pages please? It's done one subst tidyup pass and I'm just wondering will it do another? I'm currently working on a complete harmonisation of all the user page template and warnings, so need to list them without the subst, and it'd be a pain in the proverbial to noinclude all of them. Cheer muchly Khukri (talk . contribs) 14:25, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

citation for poplarity?

[edit]

I don't know if you can actually cite how popular something is, like you put after Where's Waldo on the eBaum's World article. Are you asking for a number of page visits? Or blog links?

Or is there something else you need a citation for? --Machchunk | make some noise at me 17:08, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Soybean Article

[edit]

An IP is continuing to remove a header for a POV Dispute and changing the meaning of other sentences. I am annoyed with this situation. Also, an experienced nutritionist needs to clean up the protein section. There are many POV false sentences. Soybenas are not a complete protein source but the article states it is. Thank You. My RfA

[edit]
Thank you for the constructive criticism in your neutral vote on my RfA, which passed with a final tally of (56/0/2). Be assured, I will take your concerns into consideration.

I know I have much reading to do before I'll feel comfortable enough to use some of the more powerful admin tools, so I'll get right to it.

VP Ongoing Issue

[edit]

For some reason my name has been removed from the list of authorized users. I was added by Betacommand here [1], and he welcommed me here[2]. I had difficulties using it, did everything I could myself, was unable to, so I requested assistance here [3]. Instead of assistance, I was removed from the list. Because I have had difficulties on wikipedia recieving help from administrators when requested, this message is in essence a generic template I am writing on all moderators' talk pages and discussion boards in the hopes of recieving if nothing else a response - ideally, however, a solution. Thank you very much and apologies for my impatience. Gregorof/(T) 05:19, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At the risk of being totally cliché, if there is anything I can do to help you out on a pet project here on the 'pedia, just drop me a line. November Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Hi Andeh,

As you may recall you very kindly gave me a barnstar a while back for my work on the Fluke (band) article. Firstly, many thanks again for that, heartily appreciated. Secondly, I thought you might be interested to know I have nominated the Fluke article as an FAC where it currently has 1 comment (the issues in which I believe I have now addressed) and 1 support. Request for Opinion

[edit]

Hey there...

I sent the below message to another user (an admin), but got no response, so I thought I would drop it here for your consideration. Thanks.--Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 17:33, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, picked you out of the list of admins cause of your cool name. Anyway, on to my request:
I have come across the following article VCX and user page User:VCXHomeOfTheClassics. I am not sure how much you are involved with or experiance with Articles for deletion and speedy deletion. I think that article is something that would be deletable as spam. I am especially leary/worried about the affiliation tracking that is done on the external link. On both the user page and the talk page, User talk:VCXHomeOfTheClassics there is some discussion about this not being spam because the user is affiliated with the company VCX. The user has been around for about a year, and has made a contribution to entries in the adult film industry field. I think that the user page is in violation of WP:USER.
I am requesting a second opinion about the following:
  1. is the VCX spam and as such deletable under speedy or AfD,
  2. is there a concern about the affiliate tracking system, and
  3. is the user page outside of the user page guidelines?
Your thoughts would be greatly welcomed. Thanks. --Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 22:25, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings, fellow bot operator!

[edit]

I see that you are listed as a fellow bot operator. I have been regorganising the wikipedia bot help pages to try and provide more information for those who want to learn how to create a bot or have quesitons relating to how to run a bot on wikipedia (more nuts-and-bolts than the existing policy page, which deals with what you are allowed to do, not how you would go about doing it). I've made a start at Wikipedia:Creating_a_bot but could do with any feedback at all. I could do with any programming-language specific information that you can provide as well as any suggestions for improving the article. I'm leaving this same message with 5 other bot operators, to encourage them to pass on the knowledge we have learned developing our bots to the "next generation" of wikipedia bot-builders! Hey Andeh.

Hope all's well in your world, even though I don't know much about it. I do know though, that you're the one who took the infobox photo on the Gilberto Silva photo. For this, I believe you are not a mere mortal; rather, a higher being... a WikiGod. Anyway. I ask for your holy opinioni on the new collection of Gilberto photos. Basically, I'm looking to improve the selection of photos currently on the article. I think some could be dumped from the article, or maybe some can just be re-ordered. I'd really appreciate your help with this, since I'm guessing you're quite good at that kind of thing. Anyway, if you're up for helping out, then great. If not, please do not smite me. Also please say hi to Mrs God.

All the best. GilbertoSilvaFan 10:31, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Automated message to bot owners

[edit]

As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:

Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.

Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 00:02, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incomplete bot userbox moves

[edit]

Hi, Andypandy.UK. FYI, your AP.BOT moves appear to be incomplete. For example, see one of your moves compared to one of Dycebot's moves or some of MetsBot's moves. Please update your bot to make complete moves on directory pages. Otherwise, more problems, e.g., new redirects and/or red links, will be created down the road. Please make any replies here. Thanks. Rfrisbie 18:20, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just doing the basic template changing e.g. {{User someuserbox}} to {{User:UBX.someuserbox}}. So if it edits a page where the userbox is detailed it only partially does the job. So it only fixes the transclusions. I didn't think it mattered as all those pages and pages of userboxes were in a mess, outdated and full of redlinks anyway. Do you want me to avoid editing in your user space in future? as that appears to be where all the userbox archives are.--Andeh 18:26, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree with your assessment of the situation, particularly since other bots are making the updates correctly. If you are not interested in doing the job right, please refrain from causing additional issues. Rfrisbie 18:42, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The goal is to get all unrelated wiki userboxes out of the mainspace. I guess you think more highly of userboxes than myself. So can you agree with me that if I don't edit any pages that detail each userbox (the ones in your user space) then no errors shall occur?--Andeh 18:48, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You also have a POV on what the "goal" is an how it should be implemented. Please don't presume this POV is the same as the way to view userboxes, or it is based in policy.
Any directory page will be compromised by your bot's actions, not just those at Rfrisbie. To make it simple for you, please stop editing Rfrisbie userbox directory pages. You probably should stop editing any other directory pages as well. Thanks. Rfrisbie 19:01, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AP.BOT

[edit]

Hi Andypanty: does your bot load the transclusions for all of the userboxes that it will change, so it will require the least number of edits? It would be a useful thing to implement. —METS501 (talk) 02:38, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but I am slightly worried about the edit summary you left with that edit; "finally, some action".--Andeh 01:21, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Andypandy.UK. An automated process has found and removed a fair use image used in your userspace. The image (Image:1915 Dance by Rodchenko.jpg) was found at the following location: User talk:Andypandy.UK/Archive 1. This image was removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image was replaced with Image:Example.jpg, so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image to replace it with. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 23:02, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Sonic 2 prototype title.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sonic 2 prototype title.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 02:34, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Edit summaries

[edit]

I just came across your notice about edit summaries. Nice job. Was it done with help from a template? If yes, I'd like to have the link. If no, then may be I'm going to create one. Please, respond to my talk page. Aditya Kabir 15:25, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Third opinion, by Cool Blue (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Third opinion fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:
Cross-namespace redirect

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Third opinion, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Third opinion itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 22:21, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CVU status

[edit]

The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. Another proposal is to delete or redirect the project. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F and at the deletion debate. Thank you! Could you help me out?

[edit]

Hey, I recently joined the Wikipedia:Welcoming committee and I just realized that around 200 of my welcome templates need to be subst'd. Do you think you could tweak your bot (AP.BOT) or something like that and add subst: to my templates? Thanks. If you have any questions about what I need specifically, drop me a line. Thanks again. --OES23 11:58, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Year of birth missing

[edit]

Hi. I was wondering if i can use your bot to change Category:Year of birth missing to Category:Year of birth missing (living people) when Category:Living people exists. I've done about 1,000 edits with AWB, but I would prefer to do it automatically. There are still 25,000 articles to check. -- Magioladitis 21:17, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed that your bot hasn't used AWB for a considerable amount of time. If you still have plans to use it, please let us know so that we could remove unneeded bots from the check page. Cheers, MaxSem(Han shot first!) 18:14, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am sending this message to people who wished me well after I said I was leaving for awhile. It's been about 2 years now but I am back. I have come back to my role as a developer of RETF and I have founded a new WikiProject, WP:TSN. I am looking for people to work on that too! Thank you and please let me know how you are doing, --mboverload@ 05:37, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi Andypandy.UK,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings Recent Changes Patrollers!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about technical proposals related to Recent Changes Patrol in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

  1. Adjust number of entries and days at Last unpatrolled
  2. Editor-focused central editing dashboard
  3. "Hide trusted users" checkbox option on watchlists and related/recent changes (RC) pages
  4. Real-Time Recent Changes App for Android
  5. Shortcut for patrollers to last changes list

Further, there are more than 20 proposals related to Watchlists in general that you may be interested in reviewing. (and over 260 proposals in all, across many aspects of wikis)

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Note: You received this message because you have transcluded {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} (user box) on your user page. Since this message is "one-time-only" there is no opt out for future mailings.

Best regards, SteviethemanDelivered: 01:10, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
