White Mountain Publications

[edit]

White Mountain Publications is a small Northern Ontario publisher specializing in non-fiction and poetry books in print and ebook formats, in addition to English titles for the Bahá'í community world-wide. Official website at www.wmpub.ca includes all titles, descriptions, guidelines, contest rules, and ordering information; books lists are arranged alphabetically by title, by topic, and by format with links to each individual book.

Since 1992, White Mountain Publications has published over 250 books, with a strong preference for northern Ontario histories. Although many titles are no longer in print, there were enough to consider a store front so visitors could come and look at them with a view to purchase.

The Northern Ontario Poetry Competition is now in its 20th year [2015] and has assisted in the development of poets across the target area bounded by Canada Post's postal code 'P'. Deadline annually is May 31st, and full rules are at: NOPC Rules

Since 2003, the annual publication of the Canadian Writers' Contest Calendar has served the Canadian writing community. Now in its 14th year, it continues to showcase the opportunities for writers across Canada.

In 2013, the sale of ebooks in both EPub and Kindle formats from its website expanded the reach of the publications. The conversion of past titles continues.

In 2014, White Mountain Publications moved to its new store front location at 50 Silver Street, Cobalt, ON Canada. This unique building was the former Coniagas shaft house #4 and is stop #13 on the Heritage Silver Trail. The building has had many uses since it was built as a head frame for the 350 foot mining shaft. Through the boom years in the Cobalt silver mining camp (1904-1924), this building saw the extraction of 32.5 MILLION ounces of silver, or roughly one-tenth of the total silver produced in that era.

Store hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm. Other hours are by appointment.
