Parameters

[edit]

The purpose of this list is to set more detailed guidelines for the content of the Infobox Musical template. The purpose of detailing the template is to further Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicals's goal of standardizing Wikipedia's musical theatre articles. Please leave feedback on the talk page.

caption
Explanation of image. Please be brief ("Original Cast Recording" or "Logo"...); however, for fair-use images, include production date/name or for attribution, state name of artist(s).
music
The composer. Several composers should be separated using Plainlist. Should the music be credited as an adaptation, the original composer should be listed first, a line break, a bolded (triple-apostrophe) heading with the words " ' ' ' Adapted by: ' ' ' ", another line-break, and the adapters.
lyrics
The name of the lyricist, with caveats as for the music field.
book
The name of the book-writer, with caveats as above.

Include:

  • Name of original work
  • Author/composer of original work
Example: basis = Opera La boheme
setting
The places and time where the musical takes place.
premiere_date

premiere_location
Venue or city of the premiere. See Notes[1] for location details.

  • Broadway (or off-Broadway) & West End productions
  • Notable professional tours
  • Notable professional revivals
  • Notable professional international productions & tours
  • Notable professional concerts & special performances
  • No amateur productions (i.e. High school, community theater group productions, etc.)
  • Previews may be discussed under the History/Background section of the article.
For each production, include:
  • Start year only
  • Location. See Notes[1] for location details.
    • For non-touring productions, write "Broadway", "West End", or the city and country of production.
    • For tours, write the country of the tour
  • Type of production (tour, concert etc.) for anything other than a fully-staged, non-touring production.
Example:
productions =
awards

  • Include year of award. The year is listed before the award in each line.
Example: awards=1996 Tony Award for Best Book
Awards to be included:

Controlling line-breaking in embedded bulletless lists

[edit]

Template nbsp may be used with wbr and nowrap to control line-breaking in bulletless lists embedded in the infobox (e.g. a plainlist in the |book= parameter), to prevent wrapped long entries from being confused with multiple entries. See Template:Wbr/doc#Controlling line-breaking in infoboxes for details.

Notes

[edit]
  1. ^ a b As per RfC "Naming countries in infoboxes": When identifying a location, city or region in the United States or United Kingdom, the preferred approach is to use the country abbreviations allowed by MOS:ACRO, such as "Portsmouth, New Hampshire, U.S." and "Cardiff, Wales, UK", rather than spelling out the full country name. Avoid using abbreviations for states or provinces in all nations. New Hampshire rather than NH, New South Wales rather than NSW, or British Columbia rather than BC (see MOS:POSTABBR). Cities such as New York City and London may be rendered as "New York City, U.S." and "London, UK" or simply "New York City" and "London". Also, these should not be linked when the context makes it clear (see MOS:OVERLINK). If only the country name is included, it may be written out in full.

[edit]

The HTML mark-up produced by this template includes an hCalendar microformat that makes event details readily parsable by computer programs. This aids tasks such as the cataloguing of articles and maintenance of databases. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please visit the Microformat WikiProject.
