The mainstay of the Albanian Air Force is the Chengdu F-7K2 "Hunter" an overhauled version of the Chengdu J-7, which has been updated with a new glass cockpit, a new Leonardo PS-05/A Raven AESA radar, as well modifications to the aircraft's hardpoints allowing for the use of US-designed bombs, air-to air, air-to-ground and anti-ship missiles, as well as ECM and DJR pods, the aircraft also received a new IFR probe, allowing for further compatibility with NATO tankers, the aircrafts powerplant was also replaced with a General Electric F414, effectively making this aircraft a modern fighter aircraft comparable to the likes of the JAS 39 Gripen, a contender for its eventual replacement, this overhaul was completed in Sweden at the hands of Saab with the first aircraft being delivered to the Albanian Air Force in 2017.
