Victor Shi (born 2002 or May 30th, 2002[a]) is an writer, podcast co-host, and political strategist. Shi was elected as the youngest delegate for Joe Biden in 2020 and co-hosts the podcast, iGen Politics with Jill Wine-Banks. Shi has a large following on Twitter, where he often Tweets about President Biden and Democratic politics. Shi has also written for numerous publications, including Politico, Chicago Tribune, MSNBC, and more. He also appears on MSNBC and other outlets frequently.


Early life and education

Victor Shi was born on May 30th, 2002 in Chicago Illinois. He attended Adlai E. Stevenson High School, where he got started in politics as an intern for Congressman Brad Schneider in 9th grade. Shi later joined Governor J.B. Pritzker's Emerging Youth Leaders Transition Team, where he worked with other Illinois young people to help shape the administration's policies. Shi then ran to become the a delegate for then-candidate Joe Biden, where he amassed over 40,000 votes in Illinois' Tenth District, becoming the youngest delegate elected for Joe Biden in 2020. Shi enrolled in UCLA Fall of 2020.

Career

In college, Victor took his Fall quarter off of UCLA to organize on the Joe Biden for president campaign and served as a Fellow on the 59th Presidential Inauguration Committee. Victor then entered the Communications landscape, starting as an intern for Civic Nation. He then interned for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) during the Spring of 2022, and later, the White House as an intern in the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The following Summer, Shi interned at the Center for American Progress.

In the Summer of 2023, Shi joined Voters of Tomorrow, an organization that mobilizes young people in politics. Shi serves as Strategy Director of Voters of Tomorrow, helping oversee strategy and political decisions for the organization.

Shi spends a significant of him time writing op-eds too. Shi has been published by notable outlets including CNN, Chicago Tribune, Daily Herald, Boston Globe, MSNBC, and Politico, and USA Today. Shi writes on topics from campaigns to Ranked-Choice Voting to his identity as an Asian American. Shi also appears on MSNBC to talk about youth-related subjects.

Podcast

In the summer of 2020, Shi joined forces with former Watergate Prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks to launch the Intergenerational Politics podcast. The podcast aims to engage all generations in politics and interviews people across the generational spectrum. In the Spring of 2021, Politicon bought the podcast and renamed it to iGen Politics.

Shi and Wine-Banks have hosted some of the biggest name in politics, activism, and media, including Lawrence O'Donnell, Joy Reid, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Kathy Griffin, Neal deGrasse Tyson, Madeleine Albright, Beto O'Rourke, John Kirby, and more.
