History
[edit]Dragon Brand Bird's Nest is a privately-held family business founded in Singapore in the year 1957 by Tan Kim Pheow. Tan Kim Pheow (1929-2014) was a Singaporean businessman known as the edible bird's nest (cubilose) king of Asia by his Indonesian and Malaysian counterparts. He was a Teochew native from the Chaoan provincial of Guangdong in China who migrated to Malaysia and then Singapore during the 1940s. Cubilose (Edible bird's nest) is a Chinese TCM heath and beauty commodities cherished by the Chinese population worldwide. Its global trading annual revenue is estimated at USD$5billion and growing by 15%-20% annually driven by China's consumer demand. Tan Kim Pheow was credited, together with his wife, for training and grooming the world's first batch of bird's nest artisans during the 1957 in Singapore. His media shy personality led to him being largely unknown throughout his life. His brand, Dragon Brand Bird's Nest, within his privately held Kim Hing Group, is a household premium brand name in Singapore and had delivered the highest quality hand selected and cleansed (processed) edible bird's nest to prominent personalities in Asia. His children is active in the Singapore's business world. Among them, Allan Tan was the most active in trade associations.His eldest grandson, Lawrence Tan, nicknamed the Bird's Nest Prince by the Singapore's media, is known as a bird's nest sommelier within the mainland Chinese ultra high-net worth individuals and personalities social circle. Due to their low profile nature, the extend of the family business holdings could not be ascertained of which could be in the multi-billion assets under management range.
