Ebbing and Flowing Well
[edit]A description of the site in 1780 said that it would ebb and flow several times over the course of an hour, but it would not move if there was extremes of dry and wet weather.[1] The well, which is on the B5480 road out of Settle connecting with the A65, is said to have risen three times and hour to a difference of 8 inches (200 mm) in the nineteenth century.[2]
