The Average, Boring Life of a Generic College Student

[edit]

Sydney's the name and editing wikipedia is my game. I'm considered fresh meat at Georgia Southern University or more commonly put, a freshman. My school is located in the boon docks of Georgia and I like it that way. I play cello and piano as well as sing. I have sang the National Anthem a cappella at a Gwinnett Braves game this summer after auditioning and luckily landing the part. I am a HOPE scholar award winner and have maintained a certain GPA to obtain this award. I enjoy anything pertaining to music and hope to someday make a successful career out of it by either recording soundtrack music to television shows or movies in an orchestra or become a rockstar minus the drugs and terrible costume makeup.

To Those Who Care About What I've Done

[edit]

Although I have not been a user on wikipedia for very long, I have created one article from scratch about a serial killer named Herman Drenth. I intend on adding as much information as possible to make the article full and useful before moving onto a new project.

I have also done some extensive editing on the Archer High School page.

A Love/Hate Relationship of Technology

[edit]

In my opinion, technology is one of the best and worst things that has ever been invented. If I had not grown up with technology, I probably would have ran as far away from it as possible. I prefer hand written letters versus an email and actually am in practice of writing letters to my best friend and my grandmother instead of sending a text which is not meaningful in the least. Technology seems to suck people into a vortex. Once I get on a computer, I am on it for hours when I should be spending time breathing in fresh air and exploring the world. I absolutely detest technology for this very reason. It takes me away from really living and has me looking at pictures of people doing the very things I should be. You cannot feel alive and experience the world through a computer or a phone. However, without technology, communication between people would take forever which is one reason I am grateful for it.

I certainly am not a genius at computer coding but being raised with technology has given me the skills to get by and do the basics. I can work in programs such as Adobe Photoshop, all Microsoft Office programs and many music programs such as Garageband, Finale, Logic and Reason even though they can not contribute to editing and writing on Wikipedia.

Therefore, I do not wear the pants in my relationship with technology.

My Two Cents about Wikipedia

[edit]

Wikipedia is actually one of my most visited websites. Aside from editing the encyclopedia, whenever I need to "ask the internet" as I say, I usually tend to type Wikipedia to get general and detailed information depending on how much is provided. Contrary to some of my professors' beliefs, I think Wikipedia can be an excellent, reliable source for information. Although some articles are lacking in information and sources, some are full of useful knowledge whether it be for a paper or just wanting to become more of an expert on a certain topic. I tend to use Wikipedia for knowledge on random topics that come to mind or happen in day to day conversation.

I think Wikipedia could be improved greatly through the use of more paid professionals. It could assist the site with having a higher standard of writing and better information with reliable resources. However, I do not think that the average joe should not be able to edit and add to the site. Some people are experts in certain areas and can really expand the encyclopedia for the better. There are many pages that are probably written by folks with no credentials on the subject but I think that if someone takes the time, uses reliable sources and does their research on a topic, they can become the expert and share the information through this site. Wikipedia gives the average joe the opportunity to become the expert which is something I love about this website therefore I do not think there should be a minimum set of qualifications that each person should have to edit the site.

Lack of Tongues I Speak

[edit]

I speak, write and read American English. Although I was required to take Spanish in high school, none of it stuck in my brain. Alas, I am merely a monolingual soul so I do know have the skill to be contributing to Wikipedia in any other languages. All jokes aside, if I could learn High Elf or Klingon, I would definitely try contributing through those languages because that is not what the average person tries to learn to become trilingual. Even though they are just languages used in movies and television shows, the writers have written full blown languages, not just gibberish.

- I have Germaphobia. Germs are not a joke with me and I keep hand sanitizer on me at all times and I lysol my room twice a day. The plus of being a germaphobe is I rarely get sick.

- I hate salmon and peas more than anything.

- I try my best to think of six impossible things before breakfast like Alice in Wonderland because it seems like a good practice to keep.

- I know an extreme amount about Henry VIII and his reign due to my obsession with the topic. I watch every TV series, movie and have actually written a research paper for class by choice and am working on another one now for a different class.

- My favorite movies are Alice in Wonderland (real people version) and The Benchwarmers.

- Winter is my favorite season.

- I love hot chocolate so much I drink it all through the summer. Swiss Miss or bust.
