Needs Improvement Articles

[edit]

Hammer Article

  • Lead description gives extraneous details
  • Sections need expansion
  • Lists throughout the text are lengthy and only some sections have a description
  • An image section at the end highlights only a few types of hammers which makes it seem like the earlier lists could be reduced
  • It would make more sense for the flow of the article to have the types of hammers sections and images near each other since they contain related information

Popular Culture Article

  • Strays from Wikipedia's neutral point of view value
  • May contain original research
  • Information in the "History and Definitions" section seems choppy because of so many short paragraphs. It may help to separate this into a history section and a definitions section instead of keeping them combined
  • Sections at the end need expansion and clarity as to why they are involved in popular culture

Choosing Articles to Work on

[edit]
  1. Corset controversy
  2. Crêpe
  3. Forestry law

Assigned Articles for Improvement

[edit]

Problems

  • Very Lengthy
  • Extensive quotes
  • Switches between supporters' and detractors' arguments without a concise statement of their main points

Tasks

  • Establish the purpose of the article
    • Some of the article is dedicated to the controversy while some is more focused on corset wearing culture
  • Decipher the main points for each section
    • This is contained in the quotes and not concisely stated
  • Establish the most effective layout for the readers’ understanding of the information
  • Determine the best way to reduce the length of the article by reducing quoted material
    • Determine if the quote is essential to the article
    • Determine which section of quotes should remain direct quotes and which sections can be eliminated or paraphrased
    • Determine which quotes as a whole can be summarized

Problems

  • Additional citations needed (tagged)
  • Not reflective of an encyclopedic tone (tagged)
  • Organization of ideas within main sections

Tasks

  • Sort through the ideas presented in each section of the text
  • Reorganize those ideas so that they are more user friendly
  • Adjust tone when needed
  • Verify talk page and sources (talk page has highlighted areas of the content which contradict information in the article)
  • Verify that the article is self-contained and does not rely on links
