Southern Bulacan area has a total population of 1,163,444 within an area of 350.82 km² making it one of the most populous, and the most densely-populated area in the province of Bulacan. The tremendous increase can be observed in the year 1990 when industrialization was introduced in the area. Investors established their businesses in different industrial estates that magnetized people to migrate here due to job opportunities. Another factor attributed to the increase of population is the mushrooming of housing subdivisions in the City of San Jose del Monte and in the town of Sta. Maria. Since Bulacan is proximate to Metro Manila, people working in the metropolitan area choose to live in the area together with their families. Natural increase also contributes to the increase in population.
Among the cities and municipalities in Bulacan, the City of San Jose del Monte has the biggest population with 439,090 persons while the municipality of Obando has registered the smallest population with 56,258 persons.
SBA is becoming a highly urbanized growth center in the country.
