Childhood
[edit]Ramu Chellappa, born to Chellappa, and Muthulakshmi, studied in Government High School Panangudi, Tirunelveli District upto 12th standard. He shifted to Coimbatore[1] in 2002 and to pursue a course in TVS Automobile Training Center. Due to intense work atmosphere, he gravitated towards several industries and found his passion in Writing.
Interests
[edit]He spent several hours reading books across genres in Coimbatore Central Library. He loved reading Osho and many other written works of Indian authors on Philosophy. This led him to pursue a career in media, writing and films.
His first short story was published by Varamalar magazine, a unit of Dinamalar in 2005. He took up a course in Short filmmaking in Nizhal Pathiyam, Coimbatore, followed by a film editing course in Digital I Studio in Chennai where he learnt the basics of film making including screen writing, direction and editing.
Film Industry
[edit]He entered the film industry by assisting Director Pandiraj for his films - Pasanga, Vamsam, Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga and moved on to assisting Director Selva Raghavan for his blockbuster him film Mayakkam Enna. Ramu Chellappa worked as a Writer for Horror Thriller Tik Tok[2] which released in 2003, starring Priyanka Mohan, Rajaji and Sushma Raj.
Ramu Chellappa debuted as a directed with Enkitta Mothathe starring Natty, Rajaji, Pavithra Nair, Radha Ravi, Sanchita Shetty and Vijaya Murugan under Eros International Banner. The movie hit the screens on March 24 2017 with the distribution rights bagged by Zee Tamil. The movie that spotlighted the life of “cut-out” artists from the 1980s’, was critically acclaimed and continues to be celebrated on Zee5 app.
Ramu Chellappa has also worked as 2nd Unit Director for OTT Blockbuster Vilangu starring Actor Vemal on Zee5.
Upcoming Projects
[edit]His upcoming Untitled Hotstar series starring Actor Vemal, Pavani Reddy, Queency Sneha, Shivin Ganesan, VJ Maheshwari and Vijay TV Pugazh, Rajan Krishnaswamy and Sujith is due for release soon.
Currently Ramu Chellappa is working on his novel Karuma ( Blacksmith )
