Hi everyone. I'm a software developer in the Seattle area with interests in many areas. I grew up in the LDS Church and have taken an interest in the many religions in the world.
I am starting a small personal project: Q's Jehovah's Witness Culture Page. Click the link for details.
Cool Windows XP Tip
[edit]This probably works on earlier versions of Windows too (let me know). If you know how to edit the Windows registry, you can create a shortcut for searching in the Wikipedia. In my browser, I can enter "w zebras" to search for articles about zebras. I also have shortcuts for sites like Google. Here is how to do it:
- Run regedit.exe
- Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl"
- Add a key under SearchUrl and name it "w".
- Click on the new "w" key.
- Double-click "(Default)" and set its value to http://www.wiki.x.io/w/wiki.phtml?search=%s
- Close all instances of Internet Explorer and open a new one (note: you might be able to skip this step)
- Test it out by entering something like "w star trek" in the address bar.
Below are a few other key values I have added for other kinds of searches. Name the key whatever you want. For instance, for the dictionary, you might name it "word". Then you would enter "word chemiluminescence" to look for this word.
