Kansas State Universities Phil the bobcat
The Cannon of Phil the bobcat!
Coach Bill Snyder accidentally hit Phil the bobcat with his Cadillac after a late night of game planning, at the Vanier Football Complex. Following goal #16 RESPONSIBILITY, coach Snyder, with the help of the Kansas State School of Veterinary Medicine, saved Phil's life and nursed Phil back to health. Phil went on to live a long and happy life, he eventually died of old age, at 23, over ten years beyond the average life span of a bobcat. Understandably, Coach Snyder loved and wanted to honor this tough and majestic animal. Coach Snyder decided to have Phil stuffed so that he could serve as a constant reminder of Goal #5 BE TOUGH and # 10 NEVER GIVE UP. Coach tried to pay a taxidermist, and Kansas State University graduate to have Phil stuffed but, being a fervent Wildcat fan, the taxidermist refused to take any payment for the work. It was later said that he was honored, and took great pride in his work. Phil was memorialized, and then forgotten, in 2005, after Snyder 1.0. Phil was later discovered by "head equipment guys" Wade Gassmann, and Al Cerbe, behind what appeared to be a discarded Ecocat costume, and several boxes of, Ron Prince era, power towels. His effigy lives as a constant reminder of Kansas States, resilience, and power. In 2017, after a 42-35 overtime road win at Texas Tech, senior defensive back Brogan Barry, hoisted Phil as part of the teams post game celebration. Phil will now forever be remembered. His mortal remains, excluding the parts of him used for his effigy, are now buried under the letter E in the K-STATE south end zone of Bill Snyder Family Stadium. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
