Public Fruit Jam

[edit]

The public fruit jam is a communal event in which a group of people gather at a certain time and place for a jam-making session, and the term "jam" also plays off the idea of musical improvisation, as in jazz. The phrase was first used by the art collective Fallen Fruit in 2005, and they have held these events annually since then at the Los Angeles non-profit art gallery Machine Project. [1] It derives from their term "public fruit," which is fruit found growing in or over public space. [2]
