Bibliography
[edit]Edit this section to compile the bibliography for your Wikipedia assignment. Add the name and/or notes about what each source covers, then use the "Cite" button to generate the citation for that source.
(1) Middle East: natural gas reserves by country 2022: Total proven reserves of natural gas in the Middle East in 2022, by country (in trillion cubic meters). (2022). [dataset]. Statista Ltd.[1]
I'll use this source to updated the dated 2009 analysis by clearly informing the reader this information has not changed since 2009 and Iran and Qatar still holds the most natural gas in 2022.
(2) Transparency International, International Secretariat (2011). Promoting revenue transparency: 2011 report on oil and gas companies. Berlin: Transparency International. ISBN 978-3-935711-66-1.[2]
I believe the author of this page initially may also have been a student as the writing is not particularly impressive. Additionally, for the purpose of good faith I verified the author's source and their number was slightly off from their own source. This article on page 60 (the only segment where this is mentioned) clearly expresses that the Middle East has 40% of natural gas reserves, not 41%. Additionally, their source was a broken link that they used a downloaded PDF to cover for. I researched the actually document and will revise their source and then correct the 40% statistic as stated earlier.
(3) Aguilera, Roberto F. (2009-03). "Assessing oil resources in the Middle East and North Africa". OPEC Energy Review. 33 (1): 47–69. doi:10.1111/j.1753-0237.2009.00160.x. ISSN 1753-0229.[3]
I will use the above source to add a short sentence summarizing the MENA regions total oil proven reserves and then naming the top three. Much to my dismay, after stating I disliked the 2009 source in the natural gas section, the most recent source I found for the oil section is ironically from 2009.

Outline of proposed changes
[edit]Click on the edit button to draft your outline.
![]() | Now that you have compiled a bibliography, it's time to plan out how you'll improve your assigned article.
In this section, write up a concise outline of how the sources you've identified will add relevant information to your chosen article. Be sure to discuss what content gap your additions tackle and how these additions will improve the article's quality. Consider other changes you'll make to the article, including possible deletions of irrelevant, outdated, or incorrect information, restructuring of the article to improve its readability or any other change you plan on making. This is your chance to really think about how your proposed additions will improve your chosen article and to vet your sources even further. Note: This is not a draft. This is an outline/plan where you can think about how the sources you've identified will fill in a content gap. |
Natural Gas Section Edits:
(1) Middle Eastern countries possess about 41 per cent 40 percent of natural gas reserves[1] (The source of the original author states 40% not 41%). According to BP in 2009 of the proven gas reserves were in Iran 16% and Qatar 14%. As of 2022, both Iran and Qatar still hold the highest amount of proven natural gas reserves with 32.1 trillion cubic meters and 24.7 trillion cubic meters respectively.[2]
Oil Section Edits: (I plan to further edit the previous authors grammar and sentence structure in this first section for easier readability eventually)
New addition: It was estimated in 2009 that the total proven oil reserves present within the MENA region amounted to 813.8 billion barrels of oil equivalent (BBOE)[3] The nations with the largest volumes of BBOE are Saudi Arabia which possesses 264.2 BBOE, Iran holding 138.4 BBOE, and Iraq with 101.5 BBOE.[3]
