Introduction

K Madhavan Nair (December 2^nd 1882 – September 28^th 1933) also know as Karuthodi Madhavan Nair was a lawyer, writer and a congress leader who actively participated in the freedom struggle of India against the British. He was closely associated with the Home rule league. He along with Annie Besant and others he organized the first Malabar District Political Conference in Manjeri in 1920 (1). When Kerala Provincial Congress Committee was formed in Nagpur in 1921 he became the first secretary (2) He was one of first congress leaders In India to undergo court imprisonment for 6 months during Non-Cooperation Movement in 1921 (3)(4).

He wrote the book Malabar Kalapam, the only eye witness account of the 1921 Moplah Rebellion in Malabar (5)^. When the Newspaper Mathrubhumi was founded in 1923 he became its first Managing Director (6).

When Kerala Provincial Congress Committee decided to elect a president, K Madhavan Nair was chosen as its first president (7). He has worked tirelessly for the success of Vaikom Satyagraha (8) (9) and Guruvayoor Satyagraha (10). He was also the director for Guruvayoor Referendum (11) (12) (13). He arrested again for breaking the salt law as part of Salt Satyagraha in 1930 (14) (15) (16)
