Week 3 Contribution

I chose to add on to the History portion of the Instagram article. The article provided history of Instagram updates and new features up until November 21, 2016. A new feature was released on the app on February 22, 2017, allowing people to post multiple photos or videos in one post. My contribution was : "On February 22, 2017, Instagram released a new feature that enables users to post up to ten pictures or videos in the same post. Users will be able to view other's posts by swiping left to reveal the other photos or videos." This will make the history portion current and up-to-date.

Week 2 Article Critique: "iTour"

For this critique, I chose the "iTour" article under the Technology in Society category. (Link: ITour) This article is brief and has one subcategory with three headings. Each heading includes a brief description of what it is and where it's used. On first glance of the article, I noticed the Wikipedia banner at the top explaining how the article needs help with improving its sources which are unclear. The banner made me skeptical of the article and how credible its sources are.

The article was very easy to understand and remained objective throughout. There were no biases or words to persuade readers of anything. The overall look of the page was simple and didn't seem cluttered with information for text and the table of contents made it easy to follow along. Facts were referenced with appropriate tags and linked to pages supplying additional information on the topic.The topics covered seemed appropriate since the article talked about the three different types of iTours: audio, GPS-enabled, and virtual.

The article should provide equal information for all their headings. For "audio iTour" and "GPS-enabled iTour" there was plenty of information pertaining to the topic- three paragraphs for each. However, for "virtual iTour" there was only two sentences provided. It could use a couple more paragraphs to match the length of the other two subcategories.

Everything in the article was related to the topic because it was mainly focused on the types of iTours available. I think the article could have included more information about iTours. Some useful information could include how it started, who came up with the idea, if people have to pay to use iTours, average pricing, etc. At the end of the article there was a "See Also" category that included many helpful articles to pages related to iTour like X3D, pod guides, and GPS tours. These pages provide supplemental information to this article and add more details to things not explained in the article.

There were three sources referenced at the bottom of the page that I checked. The first one, linked to "Glasgow first iTour" would not load so I was unable to look at the page. However, it was linked to a website, www.thescotsman.com, which is the national newspaper for Scotland and looks like a reputable source. In the article, it mentioned how the first audio iTour may have been in Glasgow, but that could also prove to be bias since the source was from an article in a Scottish newspaper. The article uses words such as "believed" and "may have been" to suggest it's not a proven fact. The second source, "CityTrex LLC audio walking tours, GPS driving tours" was linked to the website for CityTrex. CityTrex sells iTours which is the topic of the article so this doesn't seem like an objective viewpoint. The third and final source was linked to "GeoTours." I tried clicking on the page but it said the webpage could not be found so this source should be updated or maybe removed if it no longer exists.
