Advocacy & Political Activism

[edit]

Khial has been leading a youth movement and youth development organization for over seven years, advocating for the social and political rights of the people in the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan. His advocacy encompasses critical issues such as education promotion, child protection, youth affairs, women empowerment, gender equality, civil rights, political rights, and human rights.

As the Central President of the Tribal Youth Movement (TYM) since 2013, Orakzai has been pivotal in addressing social issues in the region. Under his leadership, TYM has focused on women’s empowerment, improving enrolment for female students, and fostering cultural and religious harmony. The organization also emphasizes institutional development and capacity-building training to equip youth with essential skills and technical education. TYM has worked extensively on improving the education and health sectors in FATA, eradicating the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR), and implementing merger reforms.

In 2020, he became the Chief Executive Director of the Youth Awareness and Development Organization (YADO), a social welfare, non-profit organization registered with the Registrar Joint Stock Companies and Societies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. YADO aims to engage the young generation in productive activities, especially in light of the unrest and war on terror that has affected the tribal areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The organization tackles existing social issues and promotes awareness while providing a platform for cultural and religious harmony.

Khial’s efforts have led to significant partnerships with organizations such as UNDP and CGPA, focusing on local government matters and KPK merger activities. He has been instrumental in creating awareness and facilitating local government initiatives through collaborations with RTI and DCR since 2018. His work is primarily focused on the youth population in the tribal areas, aiming to extend the organization’s activities throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Further Activism

Khial Zaman has been an active advocate for the rights of tribal communities in Pakistan. On October 9, 2020, he conducted a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, stressing the urgent need for local government elections and the fulfillment of government commitments to education for tribal students. On June 5, 2024, he again emphasized the necessity for immediate action on promises made during the merger of tribal districts into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning that failure to do so could lead to direct action from the community. Later, on October 9, 2024, Orakzai announced plans for a sit-in in Islamabad to demand the implementation of a three percent share allocation for the former tribal areas under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, criticizing the government's failure to fulfill prior commitments and advocating for equal rights for Levies and Khassadar forces, as well as local youth appointments.
