Poltergeist (also Polter.pl, old rpg.net.pl) is one of the biggest [1] Polish web portals dedicated to the speculative fiction. It has sub-editions about literature, cinema, comics, RPG games, boardgames, wargames, card games, video games and conventions. Polter.pl is also a blogging platform, it also contains an extensive web forum.
Owner and publisher of Polter.pl is InteliMedia.
History
[edit]Polter.pl began its existence as online zine in 2000. After the first issue and a few months of existing, it turned int a web portal. Since 2004 the publisher of the web portal is Przemysław Prekurat. In 2009 the site changed its look, and in 2011 a payable service called Polter plus was introduced - it offered a little easing in the usage of the portal and opportunity of winning awards in cyclic lotteries.
Awards and mentions
[edit]Polter.pl got a few awards and mentions during its existence:
- In December 2003 the magazine Wprost has named it its webpage of a week.[2].
- In April 2005 Polter.pl got distinguished by the Polish editors of Playboy[3].
- In 2003 the International Association of Webmasters and Designers has granted to Polter.pl 2 Golden Web Awards (for the project of the gallery and the main site of the portal)[4].
Editors
[edit]On 1 July 2010 Maciej Reputakowski became the editor-in-chief of the portal (before him, the function was claimed by Przemysław Prekurat). Before them, editors-in-chief were, in order: Tomasz Dzierżek, Maciej Dzierże, Rafał Błaszczak, Przemysław Prekurat and Piotr Brewczyński.
Structurally, the editors groups of Poltergeist are divided into sub-editors groups, defined by a common topic, directed by sub editors-in-chief.
Patronages
[edit]Piltergeist patrons many publications of the Polish market - of books, comics and games.[5] It also supports many conventions initiatives in Poland.
Forum
[edit]An integral part of the portal is a discussion forum. Poltergeist possesses one of the biggest speculative fiction forums in Poland (over 49000 registered users, who posted almost 1 milion posts).[6]
Blogs
[edit]Every registered user of Polter.pl can easily have their own personal blog integrated with the portal. As its peak, there were around 200 blog posts in a month.[citation needed]
Rallies
[edit]Editors of Poltergeist used to organize Poltergeist Rallies - a-week-long summer meetings, during which people could meet with the editors and others fans of the portal. The Rally participance was free and open for everyone.
