Medya News is a news agency founded in August 2020, incoporated in Italy but with staff based throughout Europe and Turkey[1]. The website reports on Kurdish “news, events, activities and initiatives”[2][3], and has been described as a “pro-Kurdish” and “Kurdish- focused” news outlet.[4]

Its reporting has been cited by the Daily Mirror[5], France24, the Jerusalem Post and other Western news outlets.[6][7] Regular contributors include leading Western commentators on the Kurdish issue such as Dutch journalist Frederike Geerdink and Michael M Gunter, ‘the doyen of Kurdish political studies in the United States’[8], along with leading Kurdish and European politicians such as People’s Democratic Party President Ertuğrul Kürkçü and Norway’s Erling Folkvord.[9][10]

The website has been targeted by the Turkish authorities, which blocked access to medyanews.net in November 2022.[11] The head of the Turkish Medical Association, Sebnem Korur Fincanci, was detained on terror charges following remarks reported by Medya News in which she criticized government policy.[12]
