KeepCup

KeepCup is widely believed to be the first takeaway coffee cup designed for ease of use for baristas and coffee drinkers as and environmentally friendly alternative to disposable coffee cups.

History

[edit]

Abigail Forsyth with her brother started a café business called Bluebag in Melbourne in 1998 [1] [2]

In 2012 Forsyth opened a warehouse in the UK and in March 2013 one was opened in Los Angeles[3].

In 2009, Simon Lockrey from the Centre for Design at RMIT completed a Symapro Life Cycle Analysis which has independently verified KeepCups sustainability claims[4].

The 2017 Australian Broadcasting Corporation War on Waste (TV series) has had a huge impact on the sales of KeepCups in australia[5]

Dr Martin Hocking found the energy required to manufacture 15 paper cups is the same as one reusable plastic cup [6].

Patent

[edit]

In 2016 the company was granted a patent on their design[7] . "a reusable beverage cup comprising a container; a lid having an opening and adapted to fit on the container; and a rotatable member on the lid having a plug that is adapted to locate in the opening when the rotatable member is in a first position on the lid, wherein the plug and opening are similar in shape and sealingly close the opening"
