About me | |||||||||||||||||||
Hi! My name is Andrea James. I am a writer and activist based in Los Angeles. My interests on Wikipedia include issues related to film and literature, scientific methodology, consumer fraud and medical quackery, skeptical inquiry, hoaxes, gender, hair removal, humor, and probably several other things since I wrote this. Though I realize the irony of having one in my own user page, I hate seeing a red link in an article, so I usually click on it and start an entry if I can find enough information. I've made over 50,000 edits (among top 800 editors) and started over 2,200 articles (among top 150 editors), many of them biographies. I also do a lot of redirecting and disambiguating of red links. I am a very strong believer in inclusionism here. I believe that deletionism in general and abuse of speedy deletion in particular are grave threats to the project. When the hard work of new editors is deleted, it discourages them from continuing to collaborate on the project. The amount of time wasted on checking the excesses of deletionism is staggering. Wikipedia is at its best when covering obscure topics of limited interest. I loved the free-wheeling dynamism of the project when I started contributing, and it's a shame that bureaucratic calcification seems to be setting in. When not editing here, I work in the film/TV industry. Some recent projects: I directed the short film "Casting Pearls," a Logo Season 4 winner of The Click List: Best in Short Film. I also directed the 2009 short film Transproofed. I was a consulting producer and had an on-camera role in Transamerican Love Story, a competitive dating show. I coached Felicity Huffman for her role in Transamerica and appear at the very beginning of the film. I appeared in the HBO documentary Middle Sexes: Redefining He and She and a Logo documentary about our involvement in V-Day with Eve Ensler and Jane Fonda called Beautiful Daughters. In 2010 I had a cameo in Bullied, about school bullying, which you can order free for your local school. I've had the pleasure of producing some projects for The Walt Disney Company's Disney D23 official fan club over the last couple of years. In 2012, I began production on a puppet show I created called Family Restaurant. I run several websites on consumer issues, and I am a proud affiliate of Quackwatch. I also guest blog on Boing Boing now and then. You can learn more about me and my work at my personal website. Thanks to User:Phaedriel for creating this beautiful customized page template, and thanks to all who have contributed to this important step forward in the propagation of human knowledge! |

My favorite Wikipedia moment (so far) |
For some reason, I got all fascinated with the revelation that W. Mark Felt was Deep Throat in late May 2005, which led to a great collaboration on his biography with dozens of other Wikipedians. The article was even mentioned in the Washington Post the next day:
I hope you will get involved and make additions or corrections when you see an opportunity. Drop me a note on my talk page! |
