The German-Turkish Monument Protection Command for Syria and Palestine was carried out by the German Asia Corps and involved numerous scientific surveys and construction recordings of ancient monuments in areas of the present-day countries of Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian Territories during the Palestine campaign in the Ottoman Empire from 1916 to 1918. It was founded by Cemal Pasha, the commander-in-chief of the 4th Ottoman Army, on November 1, 1916 with its headquarters in Damascus .
