Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC) is the national governing body responsible for the regulation and promotion of competition climbing in Canada. Established to lead the development of the sport, CEC aims to enable athletes to achieve their high-performance potential within an ethical and equitable competition environment.[1]
Mission and Values
[edit]CEC's mission encompasses promoting and developing competition climbing across Canada for athletes and the broader climbing community. The organization is committed to fostering an environment that upholds ethical standards and ensures equal opportunities for all participants.[2]
Affiliations
[edit]As a member of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) and the IFSC Pan American Council, CEC aligns with international standards in the sport. Para Climbing Initiatives
[edit]In October 2024, CEC became an official member of the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC), marking a significant step in the recognition and development of Para climbing within Canada. This partnership aims to strengthen pathways for Canadian Para climbers as they prepare for major competitions, including the sport's debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. CEC hosted its inaugural Para Climbing National Championships on February 8-9, 2025, in Victoriaville, Quebec, in collaboration with Access Grimpe.
Competitions and Events
[edit]CEC organizes and oversees various competitions to promote climbing across the nation. Notably, the organization announced Canadian stops for the 2025 North American Cup Series (NACS) on January 23, 2025, highlighting its commitment to providing competitive opportunities for athletes.
Community Engagement and Development
[edit]Beyond competitions, CEC is dedicated to community engagement and the development of climbing in Canada. Initiatives such as the National Climbing Gym Network, introduced in August 2024, aim to support talented athletes by connecting them with facilities and resources necessary for their growth.
Governance
[edit]CEC operates as a federally incorporated National Sport Organization (NSO) with a mandate to regulate and promote competition climbing in Canada. The organization's Board of Directors is elected annually by its members, ensuring representation and governance that reflect the interests of the Canadian competition climbing community.
Through these efforts, Climbing Escalade Canada continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the sport of climbing, supporting athletes, and fostering a vibrant climbing community nationwide.
