Paulinus Ikechukwu Ogara (born August 7, 1999) is a Nigerian Catholic priest, educator, writer, and public intellectual. He serves as a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka and is currently the Director of the Department of Civics, Culture, and Morals at the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB) in Enugu, Nigeria. He is also a part-time lecturer at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Ogara attended Seat of Wisdom Seminary, Owerri, Nigeria, where he distinguished himself as a scholar. He holds multiple degrees, including Bachelor's degrees in Philosophy, Theology, and English Education, as well as a Master's degree and a Doctorate in Philosophy of Education.
Priesthood and Career
[edit]Ogara was ordained as a Catholic priest on August 7, 1999. Following his ordination, he served in various capacities within the Diocese of Nsukka. His early roles included Assistant Diocesan Secretary, Director of Communications, and Editor of the Diocesan newspaper, The Shepherd. He also served as a Curate in the Adani and Ibagwa-Aka parishes.
In addition to his clerical duties, Ogara worked as a Supervisor of Special Duties in the Obollo-Afor zone of the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), Enugu. His work in the education sector has been particularly noteworthy, where he is recognized as a charismatic teacher and an outspoken advocate for truth and social justice.
Writing and Publications
[edit]Ogara's writing career began during his seminary days, where he contributed essays and articles to seminary publications. He quickly rose to become the editor of two seminary magazines, The Portrait and The Wisdom Satellite.
In 2006, Ogara published his first major work, How to Write – A Writer's Guide, which was revised and updated in 2016 as How to Write – Mastering the Skills that Make Writing Easy and Pleasurable. His other notable works include Gospel of Unity (2002), United We Stand (2009), You Can Pass Your Exams (2008), Together for Christ (2011), Nigeria Must Survive (2011), Catholic Moral Education for Teachers and Students of Junior Secondary Schools (2015), and Catholic Moral Education for Teachers and Students of Senior Secondary Schools (2015). In 2024, he published How Nigeria Can Survive, Pray Like This, and Teachers and Students.
Ogara is known for his prolific output and his skillful use of language, earning him the title "author of authors" among his peers. He continues to mentor young writers, providing guidance and editorial support.
