The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Environmental Impact Classification for Alien Taxa (EICAT) is a framework that can be used to classify the negative environmental impacts of alien species (also referred to as introduced species or non-native species) in a transparent and standardised manner, with an emphasis on invasive species. EICAT was adopted as an IUCN global standard in 2020, and is largely based on the schemes developed in the 2010s[1][2]

The IUCN EICAT Categories and Criteria is the document that describes the Standard for classifying alien species in terms of their environmental impact and is available in English[3], Portuguese, and Spanish. A set of guidelines has also been developed providing more details about the process and on how to conduct an EICAT assessment.
