About this User

[edit]

Throughout most of my scholarly life (at least while this site has existed) I was told that Wikipedia was a bad thing and that it was certainly not a reputable or reliable source of information. However after becoming an editor myself (which I for one never thought would happen) I have definitely learned differently. Moreover I have also developed more respect for Wikipedia, its respective editors and moderators, and the whole process that goes along with creating a Wikipedia article. But enough about that, you're here to learn about me and why I am a respectable Wiki-editor and should be taken seriously! :)

First off, I am currently a student at Georgia Southern University maintaining a 3.6 grade point average (with high hopes of achieving the ever elusive 4.0). I am also a member of the Residence Hall Association and the current Vice President of Kennedy Hall Council. In my spare (ha!) time I work at a nearby RadioShack and do some of the photography for the school's newspaper the George-Anne.

Contributions & Future Projects

[edit]

I am fairly new to Wikipedia, at least from an editing perspective. Some of the articles I've worked on include: Blue Bloods (series), So Yesterday (novel), Melissa de la Cruz, The Roommate, Gossip Girl, and Aaliyah (album)(on all of which I did mostly minor edits). My current pet project is the article Inside Out (novel) and pretty soon I hope to create an article for the sequel Outside In. In the near future I plan to create articles for: Michelle Zink, Prophecy of the Sisters, and Guardian of the Gate. After finishing these projects I hope to branch out and work on articles that are a little further removed from the usual types of articles I work on like novels, albums, and authors.

"Born This Way"

[edit]

Lady Gaga reference aside, I consider myself pretty technological. Both my grandparents on both sides of my family tree worked with technology (and computers) as well as both of my parents. So I basically grew up surrounded by technology. I am proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher. I am also fairly skilled with Adobe Photoshop. I do dabble a bit in coding/html (mostly for webpages and social network layouts) but I do admit that out of all of my technological skills coding is what I struggle with the most.

Wiki-enthusiast

[edit]

I feel that Wikipedia is a good source for quick information. The administrators seem to do a pretty good job staying on top of things so I don't think much information will be unreliable, at least not for very long. I once took too long to credit an image and it was gone in a couple of days. Basically I think Wikipedia is a great source. You can find a bundle of information collected from possibly several different minds and sources in one place. I'm not saying that students should rely on it religiously but if they used it in moderation it could be a true gem to some papers and for research.

Language Connoisseur

[edit]

As the heading suggests I consider myself a bit of language connoisseur. I love talking in general so I really enjoy learning how to say the same thing in a different tongue. I grew up in a very diverse household. My father speaks seven languages and my mother speaks three. I myself have pretty much mastered the English language and I speak Spanish well enough to hold an educated conversation and understand other natives. I am currently taking both Japanese and Chinese courses in school. I plan to continue learning other languages (mainly French and Italian) from my family members of that background and when I am fluent enough I hope to contribute to Wikipedia articles in those respective languages.

Everything Else

[edit]

My favorite hobbies include: surfing the internet, dancing, reading, photography, soccer, snowboarding, playing guitar, and (believe it or not) cleaning (I actually find it to be very relaxing).
