- Jeffrey Paul Ansloos PhD, Amanda Claudia Wager PhD, and Nicole Santos Dunn MEd studied Indigenous homeless youth in Canada through interviews and observations to discover the problem areas and ways to solve them through the education pipeline. [2]
- Gaetz, S.; Bonakdar, A.; Ecker, J.; MacDonald, C.; Ward, A.; Ilyniak, S.; Kimura, L.; Vijayaratnam, A.; Banchani, E expresses that a trial of a solution called housing first may be a solution and key to decreasing youth homelessness in Canda.[3]

- Crane, Phil; Livock, Cheryl: This is an article focused on trying to reintegrate the homeless youth in the Australian community.[5]
- For these 5 sources when it comes to the Canada Sources I want to add to the solution and lay some background for alternative ways being produced in Canada
- For the Australia sources I want to add some of the problems and the unconventional solution mostly seen through education and mentorship.

Petry L; USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, USA.Rice, K. M., & Felizzi, M. V. (Eds.). (2015). Global youth : Understanding challenges, identifying solutions, offering hope. Cambridge Scholars Publishing.[6]
- Global Youth: Understanding Challenges, identifying solutions, offering hope. This book is published through Cambridge Scholars Publishing, and discovered via a University Library Database. While this article is not directly discussing Youth Homelessness, it dives into the challenges that young people face including imprisonment, homelessness, familial issues...etc. I think for a topic as complex and wide as "Youth Homelessness", it is essential to gather background information to build up to the concept itself.
Murphy, J. F., & Tobin, K. J. (2011). Homelessness comes to school. Corwin Press.[7]
- Homelessness comes to School. This book discusses the impacts of Youth Homelessness in the educational setting, and the responsibility for educational systems to address homelessness. This would go into the solutions section in the wikipedia article as it is developed, discussing options to solve the global challenge. This article was published by Corwin Press which is associated with SAGE publishing, a widely respected academic publisher. Also discovered via University Library database. The author is a professor and associate dean at Vanderbilt's school of education.
Salek, F., & Brotherton, D. C. (Eds.). (2008). Globalizing the streets : Cross-cultural perspectives on youth, social control, and empowerment. Columbia University Press.[8]
- Globalizing the streets : Cross-cultural perspectives on youth, social control, and empowerment. This book covers many challenges that young people around the world face, including the rise of Youth Homelessness as a result of leaving home. This article has a portion dedicated to Nomadic populations of young people that would fall under the categorization of homeless in most definitions, and includes commentary on how minority populations have enhanced challenges. It was published by Columbia University Press indicating that it is peer reviewed and reliable for use in this article.
Polakow, V., & Guillean, C. (Eds.). (2001). International perspectives on homelessness. Bloomsbury Publishing USA.[9]
- International perspectives on homelessness. This book examines government responses to Homelessness in general across many case studies around the world. The authors contextualize the historical scenarios of the time, and then discuss governmental reactions to homeless challenges. It was published by Bloomsbury Publishing which is a reputable fiction and non-fiction publishing company based out of Britain. This article is a little dated, but I think will provide great insight on these case studies to compare

- Peer Support in the Homeless Youth Context: Requirements, Design, and Outcomes. This article examines how peer support can help facilitate the difficult shift out of youth homelessness including financial, emotional, and physical support. Many youth individuals who are unhoused have addictions or home challenges that put them in that unfortunate position, and this examines how different solutions have helped them escape. This was published by Spring Science and Business Media which appears to be a reputable academic publishing company. It is also a relatively recent article which makes it helpful in examining current youth homelessness.

Outline of proposed changes
[edit]-By using the sources added I will be able to gain a new understanding of a topic as it focuses heavily on the main subject. Reading this I will be able to add critical information that is not displayed in the article already. Such as new statistics and data that can be used to help with the overall issue. As I keep searching I will keep adding new sources and articles to gain a full knowledge of the situation at hand.
- I will be deleting outdated information by going through and adding new statistics and data to the topic to get a more modern take on the subject as we can make it relevant to us in 2024 so we can get a clearer understanding of the problem and how serious it is
- these additions will add more clear cut evidence that we need to change the problem at hand which is youth homelessness ultimately hoping readers will be influenced by this article that this is a serious matter and could affect the lives of tommrow which would be the children
- all my citations are labeled above (1-5)

OUTLINE:
- Add content surrounding the background of youth homelessness - root causes of unhoused youth.[1]
- I think an entire section should be added to this article at the start following the "Overview" section, discussing unique challenges that youth populations face through statistical references included in this source.
- The title of this section will be "Background Challenges for Youth Populations" - this will be a great segway into nation specific scenarios and content.
- The circular education issue. A youth individual without a home is unable to acquire education as easily, while an uneducated person often struggles to break the cycle of youth homelessness.
- The title of this section will be "Background Challenges for Youth Populations" - this will be a great segway into nation specific scenarios and content.
- I think an entire section should be added to this article at the start following the "Overview" section, discussing unique challenges that youth populations face through statistical references included in this source.
- For the case studies already discussed, I want to re-structure the article completely. I think an overarching title "Case Studies" with a broad-scope of examples (including those already researched on the page) will help diversify the wikipedia page. I will incorporate cases from all contexts of the world including continental, religious lines, and development level to help enhance the scope of the article.
- Right now, we have a majority of "Global-north" nations represented which limits the accuracy of the article's content. Polakow et. al examine numerous cases of homelessness at large which will help add to this page.[1]
- I want to delete the section "Health risks". The only content beneath that category is the increased risk of STD's and STI's. This can be a subsection of an addition I want to implement following the case-studies called "The Impacts of Youth Homelessness". Some subcategories can then become "Health Risks", adding in other challenges including disease, nutrition, and mental health. "Future Implications" can become another category which demonstrates the increasing challenge of Youth Homelessness, and dives into the educational challenges that accompany.[2]
- Proposed solutions must be clear. I think instead of the "Policy" section, it would be pertinent to incorporate nation-specific policy beneath the country case-studies rather than its own section. The "Solutions" section can then address the proposed policy shifts, and incorporate studies surrounding the impact of peer-support.[3]
- This source examines the psychological and physical strategies that have successfully been implemented to help youth escape this cycle or challenge of youth-homelessness.
- I will also examine case-studies that have had positive outcomes in reducing the levels of Youth Homelessness within their borders.[3]
- I will restructure the information provided within the "Prevention Strategies" section to fit in different parts of the article. "The New Opportunities Prevention Strategy" is basically the only information given within this section, and it provides commentary on how to prevent youth homelessness. This is valuable information, but I believe it should be conveyed beneath a different sub-category under the Solutions section. This also needs to be elaborated on - as I discussed in my "solutions" proposal above, I think examples are vital to bring the theoretical ideas to life. This "Prevention Strategies" section should be re-visited, and the study assessed should be reviewed to see if there is more tangible examples of how it has been proven.
- I think in general, this article requires more images, re-formatting, and a complete information overhaul to make it a diverse and well-rounded article.
![]() | Now that you have compiled a bibliography, it's time to plan out how you'll improve your assigned article.
In this section, write up a concise outline of how the sources you've identified will add relevant information to your chosen article. Be sure to discuss what content gap your additions tackle and how these additions will improve the article's quality. Consider other changes you'll make to the article, including possible deletions of irrelevant, outdated, or incorrect information, restructuring of the article to improve its readability or any other change you plan on making. This is your chance to really think about how your proposed additions will improve your chosen article and to vet your sources even further. Note: This is not a draft. This is an outline/plan where you can think about how the sources you've identified will fill in a content gap. |
