"Dunces and Dragons" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from Season four. SpongeBob and Patrick accidentally travel in time to the medieval era. They have to defeat a menacing dragon and find a way back home. The episode received a special DVD release called Lost In Time.

Plot

[edit]

SpongeBob and Patrick go to a Medieval Moments restaurant (a spoof of Medieval Times) to watch the jousting tournament. They both volunteer to take part in the joust but an accident launches them both into the air. Unkown to the pair they have travelled back in time and they land in a field within a medievil version of Bikini Bottom.

SpongeBob and Patrick are caught by some knights and are thrown in a dungeon as the knights believe them to be witches. Inside the dungeon they see somebody playing a clarinet and think it is Squidward. It turns out to be a medievil version of Squidward named Squidly. SpongeBob still thinks they are in the restaurant, and describes 'how accurate the props are'. Later, SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidly are sent to King Krabs, a version of Mr. Krabs. King Krabs orders the trio to be executed because of an insulting song they sang in front of him. It is now that SpongeBob realizes that they have travelled in time. However, Princess Pearl reminds King Krabs of the prophecy in a stained glass window. It says that two brave knights will fall from the sky and will be sent by a king and defeat the dragon that is controlled by the evil wizard Planktonimor. Just then, the dragon (who, actually, is a giant jellyfish) smashes through the wall.

Under Planktonimor's orders, the jellyfish-dragon kidnaps Pearl. King Krabs sends SpongeBob and Patrick to defeat the dragon and save Pearl. Squidly goes with them under orders from King Krabs. On the way, they stop off at the Blacksmith's to get some armour and weapons, only to find that all of the weapons are too heavy except for the jellyfish net. As they reach the bridge to Planktonimor's tower, they are attacked by a 'Dark Knight', who guards the bridge. The Dark Knight is a medieval Sandy. SpongeBob wins the ensuing fight using his karate skills but spares her life. Amazed, the Dark Knight decides to follow SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidly on their quest.

SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidly and the Dark Knight make an incredibly long journey to the top of the tower to try and save Pearl, but they are cornered by the jellyfish-dragon. SpongeBob pulls out a Krabby Patty he had been saving for lunch, which the Dragon eats. It likes it so much that it decides to join SpongeBob's team, zapping Planktonimor, allowing the rescue of Pearl. Later, at the celebrations of having won, Squidly starts playing his clarinet. The seahorses become scared and launch SpongeBob and Patrick into the air and they land back in the present day.
