Intended uses

[edit]

This infobox template is intended to be used in articles about current and former players of American college football. However, please note the following exceptions and caveats to the foregoing general guideline for use:

1. This infobox template is not intended to be used for articles about former college football players who are also college football coaches. Articles about American college football coaches use Template:Infobox college coach, the uniform template for college coaches in all American college sports.

2. This infobox template is not intended to be used for articles about current and former National Football League (NFL) players, coaches and administrators, nor for players, coaches and administrators in the several NFL predecessor leagues, including the American Professional Football Association (APFA, 1920–1921), All-America Football Conference (AAFC, 1946–1949), American Football League (AFL, 1960–1969). This template is also not used for Arena Football League players, coaches and administrators. Articles about all of the foregoing use Template:Infobox NFL player. If a former college football player played in one or more regular season games in the NFL, APFA, AAFC, AFL or Arena Football League, the article about such player should usually employ Template:Infobox NFL player. If a former college football player was a member of an NFL preseason or practice squad, but never played in a regular season NFL game, then the article about him should generally use this template.

3. This infobox template is not intended to be used for articles about current and former Canadian Football League (CFL) players, coaches and administrators. If a former college football player played in one or more regular season games in the CFL, the article about such player should usually employ Template:Infobox gridiron football person. If a former college football player was a member of an CFL preseason or practice squad, but never played in a regular season CFL game, then the article about him should generally use this template.

Microformat

[edit]

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book or database. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Sub-templates

[edit]

Date-of-birth ("bday") information will only be included in the microformat if {{birth date}}, or {{birth date and age}} are used in the infobox. (Do not use these if the date is before 1583). Be cautious about using these if the person is still living, per WP:DOB.

To include a URL, use {{URL}}.

Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.
