Early Life and Education

Ashok D. Bagmare was born on October 23, 1957, in Bramhapuri, Chandrapur, Maharashtra, India, into a modest family. His father, Dashrath S. Bagmare, worked in a rice mill and was a Kushti (wrestling) player, while his mother, Saraswati D. Bagmare, was a housewife.

He completed his early education at Prathamik School, Bramhapuri (up to 4th grade) and continued his studies at Nevjabai Hitkarini College, Bramhapuri, from 5th to 10th grade.

During his school years, he was a National Cadet Corps (NCC) captain and actively participated in sports, playing hockey at the state level.

To support his family, he worked as a waiter in a hotel and was also involved in farming. He has two younger brothers and two younger sisters, with one brother serving in the Indian Air Force and the other in the Maharashtra Police.

Police Career

Ashok D. Bagmare joined the Maharashtra Police in 1976 as a recruit in SRPF Group 4, Nagpur. He underwent 9 months of police training in Pune before beginning his service.

  • 1976 – Completed 9-month police training in Pune.
  • Until 1999 – Served in Gadchiroli as Reserve Sub-Inspector (RSI).
  • 1987 – Became an opener of the C-60 Commando Force (Anti-Naxal Force) in Gadchiroli.
  • 2000 – Transferred to Amravati as Reserve Police Inspector (RPI).
  • 2001 – Transferred to Nagpur Rural as Reserve Police Inspector (RPI).
  • Later – Moved to Nagpur City as Reserve Police Inspector (RPI).
  • Later – Transferred to Police Training Centre (RPTS) as Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP.).
  • Later – Promoted to Assistant Commandant in SRPF Group 4, Nagpur.
  • Later – Moved to SRPF Group 13, Gadchiroli, as Assistant Commandant.
  • 2015Retired as Assistant Commandant from SRPF Group 13 (Gadchiroli) after 38 years of service.

Awards and Recognitions

Throughout his service, Ashok D. Bagmare received 228 awards, rewards, and certificates, including prestigious police medals for his contributions to law enforcement, anti-Naxal operations, and public safety:

  • 1994 – Awarded the Insignia Medal by the Director General of Police (DG), Maharashtra.
  • 1999 – Awarded the President’s Police Medal.
  • 1999 – Received the Gallantry Award (Police Padak) on Republic Day for Special Duty.
  • 2015 – Awarded the 2nd President’s Police Medal for law and order arrangements, election duty, and Naxal operations.[1]
  • Received the Police Medal for 18 years of service in the Anti-Naxal Force in Gadchiroli.

Sports and Other Achievements

Ashok D. Bagmare was actively involved in sports and martial arts, representing the Maharashtra Police and the state in various competitions:

  • Gymnastics:
    • All India Gymnastics Player in the Maharashtra Police Gymnastics Team.
    • Trained in gymnastics for 5 years in Pune (starting in 1977).
  • Hockey: Played hockey at the state level.
  • Shooting:
    • Served as All India Good Gun Shooter in-charge.
    • Competed in shooting competitions in Asansol, West Bengal.
  • Judo Karate: Black Belt holder.

Personal Life

  • Wife: Prabha A. Bagmare, served in the Local Crime Branch (LCB), Maharashtra Police, and retired in 2018 from Gadchiroli.
