[edit]I absolutely love the red cricket image of yours. Did you actually take this image, if so, where did you find this insect? Do you happen to know what species it is? Many thanks! – ClockworkSoul 17:38, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Thank you
[edit]Thank you for your reply, and for showing me all of your uploaded pictures. every one of them are quite stunning (Amguid crater, wow!).jpg. You and your husband obviously live a very active and interesting life!
I understand your feelings about barnstars in particular, and I agree that i's unfair that many very deserving people never get awarded a barnstar, which is one of the reasons I had for creating the Kindness Campaign. One of the foci we have there is to encourage people to notice when others make a major effort and recognize that effort appropriately, whether it be by a nice note on their talk page, or giving them a barnstar. At the moment, the emphasis is on the latter in the hopes that everybody that deserves one should get one, but it doesn't have to be that way. In the end, all I really want to do is help out morale a bit by making people feel appreciated (in fact, we would love if you dropped by if you had any suggestions we could use).
As for your WikiThanks, I'm not sure how that happened... one person gave me a big one as a big thanks, and other people just sort of picked up on it. As you can see, I've separated them out because they really aren't barnstars, and aren't meant to be. I've even been thinking of removing them from the page anyway because they're not entirely approproiate there, so I have no problem removing them.
Oh, there's one more thing I would to ask you: I've been considering joining the Mediation Committee, and I would like some advice from a veteran. Did you find it rewarding before you joined the board? What percentage of your WikiTime did you find spending on mediation? Many thanks. :)

Autofellatio
[edit]Hi, could you explain why the use of the word "copyrighted" means so much to you here in the context of autofellatio 2? The Berne convention is clear: all documents are copyrighted. All of the documents and pictures on Wikipedia and Wikimedia and everywhere else is copyrighted. Except those whose authors have been dead for over 100 years or something. So does "copyrighted" mean something more to you than the rights of an originator under the Bere convention? --Tony Sidaway|Talk 00:44, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- By the way, it is funny but I found the insect pictures on this page quite challenging. I suppose I got a taste of how awful it is for some people to see a penis or a vagina. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 00:46, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Edit summary
[edit]Hello. Thought I would drop you another note to first let you know that User:Sannse is throwing your Wikimedia Board member credential around on my talk page in a way I would find embarrasing if I was you, especially since Sannse is complaining about something you never contacted me about. Second, given Sannse's repeated complaints, I thought I would explain that it is extra important to add an edit summary for controversial changes such as your edit to autofellatio: [1]. Wikipedia:Edit summary: "Even a short summary is better than no summary. Accurate summaries help people decide whether it is worthwhile for them to check a change." Thanks. [edit]I think some people have that usage in English, too, but I discourage it because it seems to imply falsely that other things are not under copyright.

[edit]Nearly nobody seems to like to discuss the current image deletion policy. See my messages here, here, here, here, and here. Only three persons have responded to my messages. Hi Anthere. I just noticed some stupid admin had deleted your very nice snowmobile pic that is used in the Snowmobile article. But I found a copy of it in the french article so I saved that one and reuploaded it to the english wikipedia to repair the damage. I also noticed you had a broken image link to Costumes_Saami.jpg on your pic page here so I fixed that one. I first thought it was another deletion but was just a missing "_". Oh, and I love your pics! Greetings from snowy Sweden, --David Göthberg 05:18, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Req. for your work on Sony v Universal
[edit]I think Sony Corp. v. Universal City Studios could make a great featured article. It doesn't quite meet the requirements yet, but it could with a little work. In light of the debates and cases about digital piracy and the obligations of hardware/software creators, the affirmation/modification/elimination of the Sony precedent is a key issue for the future of information technology.
Since you've worked on the article in the past, feel free to take another look to bring it "up to code" for a nomination. Feco 21:07, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Request for not using Malayalam Numerals
[edit]In Malayalam Wikipedia now we are using Malayalam Numerals. This is make reading harder even for Malayalies living in Kerala.
Malayalam Numerals are now only for academic interest. [Sadly] it is no longer taught even in Malayalam medium schools.
You could verify this by looking Malayam Medium Physics text book (eg Prefaces/Contents pdf). Even Malayalam text book (eg Prefaces/Contents pdf) do not use Malayalam Numerals.
Or see the popular Malayalam paper at Malayala-Manorama at http://www.pressdisplay.com/
So I request we should switch back to Latin numerals at http://ml.wiki.x.io and http://ml.wiktionary.org/ (may be after an voting process)

MediaWiki:Sitenotice
[edit]I have removed the French version of the notice you added, since:
- A sitenotice in French on the English Wikipedia does not make sense.
- Signing a site notice does not make sense.
--cesarb 29 June 2005 11:52 (UTC)
- I just noticed you reverted yourself almost at the same time, and your revert went first ☺. --cesarb 29 June 2005 11:55 (UTC)
- I immediately reverted what I did. It was a mistake in pasting between windows. Of course it makes no sense. The problem is not all projects have a valid sitenotice right now, it requires to be sysop to edit it and it takes so much time to switch oneself sysop on each project one at a time, that I lazyly pasted the message in village pumps for sysops to change their site notice. I just messed between windows. I hope you will accept my words when I say it was a mistake. Anthere
- It's obvious it was a mistake; otherwise, it wouldn't make sense ;-) --cesarb 29 June 2005 12:04 (UTC)

Your Wikimania paper
[edit]HI, I sent this as an email message, but it bounced back for some reason, so I'm copying it to your talk page:
I recently came across the abstract of your Wikimania paper on 'How to get Wikimedia into the developing world', and thought I would email you to see if you have a full text version available. I am writing my MA dissertation entitled 'Wikipedia: hypertext, the virtual community and the democratisation of knowledge' and would like to cite you in a section of the paper, as I am writing about how the Wikipedia is a community which constantly discusses itself.
If you're interested, I edit under the username Will Lakeman, and I have a sub-page detailing my research. I decided to make my ideas available for comment for other Wikipedia editors, and hope to makethe dissertation available at some point.

[edit]Hi Anthere:
I'm very sorry to bother you, I know you're very busy; I've been pressured to drop off this note. They declared me the "WikiPope," and as such, I'm obliged come and interrupt your day so you'll know that you've been declared a saint. Also, you are hereby awarded this Saint's Barnstar. Please feel free to join in with the joke if you would like to do so and can find the time.
More importantly, always know in all sincerity, that we appreciate your efforts greatly. -- Essjay • Talk 07:23, August 18, 2005 (UTC)

Human Rights Servey on Wikipedia (The final post of I_sterbinski)
[edit]- Dear all,
- Wikipedia was recently a subject of intensive research of an huge international human right organization. A team of people from different nationalities and ages were acting on Wikipedia for 20 days, investigating previously noted anomalities of Wikipedia free editing and forming a final report, which (between the others similar reports) will later be a guide to all future moves of the organization concerning Wikipedia. Acting under an account of a real person, their privacy is to be held private. Therefore, very few private information will be revealed.
- Also, this is a result of the lack of final possition of the organization concerning Wikipedia and human rights, which was still not formed.
- The team's final post on Wikipedia, where they explain their actions can be found on the following addresses:

- We also want to appologise for keeping our identity secret for a longer period.

Cross-Wiki personal attacks
[edit]User:Ed Poor recommended that I bring a matter of cross-Wiki personal attacks to the attention of a steward, such as yourself. JarlaxleArtemis (talk · contribs) is the subject of an RfArb that appears likely to result in substantial sanctions against him. He has made many personal attacks on an editor, User:Linuxbeak, involved in that RfArb, and has been getting acounts on Wikimedia projects and miscellaneous open wikis in order to spread these attacks. I know this because he boasted of it on the Linuxbeak's talk page.[3] I don't know if there are any good ways of getting this type of cross-Wiki attack cleaned up, but any help you can propose for would be appreciated.
- Thanks for your response. I'm afraid that this matter has been difficult for everyone involved. I apologize on behalf of the community for any upset that has been caused to you or others. Couter Vandalism Unit
[edit]I have a vandalism detection bot and I feel it needs some color so I want to create a CVU logo. I am thinking of basing it on Image:CTU-Logo.png and instead of "United States of America" use "Wikipedia Foundation", instead of "Counter Terrosism Unit" use "Counter Vandalism Unit" and instead of the eagle use (which requires board permisson as you likely know). So what do you think? --Cool Cat Talk 02:00, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
Ah, this is why you tried irc last night :)
Hmmm, an immediate question comes to my mind... where will this bot be active ? Likely on the english wikipedia, or possibly on other wikipedias ? If so, why using the wikimedia foundation logo and not the wikipedia one ? There is no reason to use the foundation logo as the foundation is not involved in this bot activity. I fear it could be perceived wrongly. I myself see no specific problem in having the bot with the wikipedia logo... but since it will appear as a community bot, I think you must get approval from the wikipedia community to use it. The only question left is "where will this bot be active ?" Ant
- The bot already serves on irc.freenode.net,
- #en.wikipedia.vandalism
- #de.wikipedia.vandalism
- #fr.wikipedia.vandalism
- #es.wikipedia.vandalism
- #pl.wikipedia.vandalism
- #it.wikipedia.vandalism
- #ja.wikipedia.vandalism
- #bg.wikipedia.vandalism
- #meta.wikimedia.vandalism
- It takes me about 1-5 minutes to get the bot to cover any other languages. The bot posts warnings on freenode servers based on activity on wikipedia servers BUT the image will be only used in wikipedia servers.
- I am thinking of creating a template something like "Member of Couter Vandalism Unit" for frequent RC patrollers and use this image there :)
- --Cool Cat Talk 12:37, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
