Kingdom Island is a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) involving a virtual world, created by Venbit. Players socialize as cartoon dragon avatars on a playful isolated island. After multiple attempts to launch as the previously named DragonPlay online game, Kingdom Island launched onto the iOS platform April 2nd, 2012. It became the very first MMO and virtual world to cross platforms between the online world and the iOS app world, and has since expanded into a large online community. Unlike the conventional and native online worlds Kingdom Island focuses on a freemium model, which lends the gameplay to be entirely free, while still giving an option to upgrade to premium packages. In-game currency.[citation needed] (or Silver) allows users to earn rewards such as avatar clothing and access to special rooms. Silver can be found or earned on the island during game play, and is entirely free. Premium packages like silver bundles of 100, 500, or 1000 coins allows users to skip the process of finding the coins and enjoy the items they wish to purchase.
The game is specifically designed for ages 6–14, however, anyone of any age is allowed to play Kingdom Island.[1] The major focus of the developers has been on child safety,[2] with a number of features introduced to the game to facilitate this — including the inability to cuss or date within the game , whereby users encounter filtering that prevents swearing and the revelation of personal information;[2] and moderators who patrol the game.[3] The social experience of the game, as well as the interface design teaches the users to interact with others on a team building platform — including a user follow list, teams/clubs, outfit ratings, and a private message system.

[edit]Kingdom Island is divided into various rooms and distinct areas. There are various rooms that scroll with the player as they walk around. This feature allows for larger rooms, which reduces crowded players. In total there are 12 rooms which can be openly explored:
Harbor: The starting point for all players who log in. This scrolls over to the side where you can find the first ever free for all item, the burger hat. The Harbor hosts in game characters Elmer and Bigly
Castle Pathway: The entrance point to the castle
Castle Courtyard: The courtyard area also scrolls from left to right. The courtyard hosts in in game character Bibby
Throne Room: Connected to the castle courtyard.
Ballroom: The very first room on the island that is only accessible via premium gold package.
Beach: Accessed via the Map, hosts in game character Lola
Volcano: Accessed via the Map, is the only location that is not part of the main island.
Volcano cave: Accessible via the volcano, is the second most popular meeting spot of the island.
Waterfall: Accessible via the Map, is one of the largest single frame rooms on the island.
Spinno's secret lair: Added in April 2013. The Lair was the very first two floor scrolling room, and was also the only room that has been designed around an in game character, Spinno.
Theater entrence: Accessible via the Map. Host to in game character Greeny. Showcases the names of the developers on the pavement. It is the only room in which the staff is mentioned.
Theater lobby: Accessible Via the Theater entrence. Designed to be more modern than most of the other rooms, it is the first introduction to a role play atmosphere where players can wear an usher costume to match the room.
Each player is provided with the option to form a club or team. Members have the option of opening their club or team house so other dragons can access it via an invite or recruit. Various free clothing items are always available, Upon unlocking premium features like the HD app, users are granted access to more items.
Game features
[edit]Minigames
[edit]Players can play a number of minigames on Kingdom Island. They earn coins based on the score they get, which can be spent on items, or shared with their club houses.
Emoticons
[edit]Players can express their feelings with emoticons. There are numerous emoticons, such as a happy face, a sad face, angry face, and winking. The emoticons appear above the avatar's head in a speech bubble. The addition of emoticons comes with updates. Unlike other games, the emoticons are always available and completely free to use. During the Beta stage of the iOS version, there was a love emoticon available. However it was decided that this emoticon would be removed in the next update due to the misuse of the emoticon.
Items
[edit]Members may use the virtual coins that they collect from playing mini games to purchase various items from their Player ID. Itemss include clothing, wigs, costumes, clubs houses, and furniture. All players may also change their dragon colors absolutely free.
Each player has their own Dragon ID card, which is used to manage the player's inventory.[4] Players may decorate their dragon by purchasing new clothing and other items.[4] Anyone can buy clothes, users with a premium option have access to more clothing. Unlike other similar games, clothing is never taken out of the inventory assortment, and thus is always available for new or old players.
