Iolchu Afi-Ogli Aliyev (November 5 1964 — July 27 2014) — was a soldier in the 24th Territorial Defense Battalion "Aidar" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, participant of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Biography

Native of Beylagan District Azerbaijan. Participated in Revolution of Dignity, alias "Ruslan". He went to the military enlistment office on his own, but was refused due to age. From May 2014 he was a volunteer, fought in the "Aidar" battalion, alias "The Avar".

On July 27, the battalion unit was heading to the terrorists' positions, Afi Ogli was going ahead of tanks with a platoon of sappers - tankmen refused to move forward, they were persuaded - supposedly, let's go - the radios did not work. A reconnaissance group went ahead and reported that there were no people in the strip of attack. The battle took place near an administrative building on the outskirts of Lutugino. After that, they went another 5 km and fell into an ambush - terrorists were firing from the territory of the mine with mortars, a machine gun, and an SVD rifle. The group passed near a gas station and headed to the railway crossing in the city of Lutugino, there were three explosions. The explosion wave threw the soldier Oleg Sobkov back, several soldiers were killed, three more were still alive, firing was conducted from all sides. Oleg Sobkov, under fire, with the help of a groupmate from "Beret", loaded the wounded into a car, which was to take them to the hospital. After the seventh attempt, the strike group under fire was able to take the bodies of the killed, after that a bus and a jeep with militants were destroyed. In the evening, the battalion freed Lutugino. Among the dead - and there were 13 of them (Lieutenant Colonel Sergey Kovriga, Senior Lieutenant Igor Rimar, Senior Sergeant Sergey Shostak, Senior Soldier Ivan Kulish, Soldier Vitaliy Boyko, Soldier Mykola Lychak, Soldier Aliyev Iolchu Afi-Ogli, Soldier Stanislav Menyuk, Soldier Orest Kvach, Soldier Mikhail Verbovy, Soldier Alexander Davidchuk and Soldier Ilko Vasilash).

He is buried in Kiev.

Awards and honors

  • Order "For Courage" III degree. (June 27 2015, posthumously) — for personal courage and high professionalism, demonstrated in defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the military oath[1]
  • Immortalized on the "Wall of Memory of those who died for the unity of Ukraine" in Kiev
  • Awarded the chest badge "For the defense of Luhansk Airport" (posthumously)
