<small>At the root of the problem is that Wikipedia's decision-making mechanism is thoroughly broken. ...any clique of ten editors can write a rule or standard, vote it among themselves, and declare it "consensus". Almost every guideline in Wikipedia was decided in this way. No country could survive more than a few years with such a "randomcratic" government; and it seems that Wikipedia cannot either. User:Jorge Stolfi</small>

<small>There are some signals that in our more mature projects, we are not as effective as we could be in helping new editors become active contributors. There are also signals that more experienced editors and administrators are leaving due to stubborn behavior, let alone outright hostility. Respect, civility, and good faith are critical to ensure a long and active life-cycle at Wikimedia. The Foundation may be able to reduce community friction by communicating their strategic priorities, and by improving community tools and processes in order to enable more constructive experiences. Kudpung is the name of a village in Isan, Northeastern Thailand.
It is also the main home of this contributor to the Wikipedia, a semi-retired British academic who was born in 1949 and raised in Malvern, Worcestershire, England.
My father was one of the boffins who contributed to the development of Radar during WWII. I was educated in traditional English boys' boarding schools where my favourite subjects were languages, creative writing, and music. I took a first degree in Business Studies shortly after which I spent six years in Lower Saxony with BAOR, followed by nine years in West Berlin where I studied several branches of language, linguistics, and media. I play several instruments and while in Berlin I toured much of Europe with jazz-rock fusion bands. During 1982 I presented a daily programme on a local Spanish radio station. <br>In 1988 following several years of involvement with the Avignon Festival, I moved permanently to the Provence where I taught in a regional university, and developed marketing solutions for Rhône wine, while producing several acres of Grenache.<br>In 2000 I settled in Thailand where I taught in a public university, designed teacher training programmes for the The Ministry of Education, and helped found the languages department of a teacher training facility for a large group of independent schools. I also collaborated on the development of new Cambridge University ESOL exams. I have published a lot of stuff on linguistics and travel, and a series of English language text books.<br>I retired from academic work in 2008 to my Thai home in Kudpung where I occupy my time with translating, writing, composing, and running a small consultancy. I return to Malvern regularly. My daughter by a previous marriage is a chair professor in a French university.

This user believes in civility and assuming good faith.

i've been editing Wikipdia for a fairly long time, and my work has been mainly taken up with creating and improving Wine, Thailand, Worcestershire articles, long translations, and more recently, getting the county project up and running. I had never really considered nominating anything for Good Article but the Malvern article because of its brilliant teamwork, was to be the exception, and it taught me that good, friendly, and motivated collaboration can turn almost any article into a potential GA, or even FA candidate.
Although I spend quite a bit of time (in bursts) on the Wikipedia, my article space edit count is very low because:

• Most of my time is spent on researching for content and references for articles.
• Creations, translations, & major copyedits are prepared in my user pages before posting to article space.
• I don't create stubs en masse to boost my creation count.
• Discussion with other editors and giving help and advice is nicer than using Twinkle, Freindly, and Huggle.
• I check out editors' user pages before serving up a warning.
• Wherever possible, I group my edits to avoid cluttering edit history logs.
• My !votes on RfA are done after thorough investigation of the candidate.
• I don't believe high edit counts, bloated self-promotion, and arrogance, are qualifications for barnstars or adminship.
• I believe untidy, immature, and messy user pages, especially of admins, are a sign of untidy, immature, and messy minds.
• I don't go out of my way to find fault and revert good faith editing errors - I put friendly comments on talk pages instead.
• Edit wars are the domain of children, vandals, and arrogant admins.
• I stay reasonably civil at most times, even in cases of condescending behaviour by children and admins.
• I sometime give short shrift to pompous or patronising editors who try to behave like admins.
• I know for a fact that some admins misuse their powers, but I know better than to argue with them.
• Dispute resolution almost always concludes in the favour of admins and self-appointed Wikipedia policemen.

I was once asked why I don't submit a WP:RfA. The answer was for all the reasons above, However...
