Proposed change

[edit]

cross posted from Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tropical cyclones

I have just received a complaint about date format changes such as this causing breaks in image links because image names have been changed. Upon investigation, it seems that there is a particularly template that uses non-standard terminology as parameters. Whilst I will modify my script to avoid changing such instances, I would like to raise the issue here. I find the |image name= confusing because it usually refers to, er, image name. I hope that the template in question could be modified, so that |image location= is changed in favour of the more universal |image=, and |image name= be changed to |caption=. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 01:46, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

a rant

[edit]

When was fatalities replaced with casualties, and why did the person who changed this not go through the numerous pages which now do not show this information. Since the various storm infoboxes were merged this has been a total clustercuss, and quite frankly when I find time I shall be making a new template (those who amalgamated into this be damned).Lacunae (talk) 23:52, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm almost certain there is syntax, which will allow either the use of the parameter casualties or fatalities to render the same result. This will alleviate the need to update any articles. Also, I agree that a new infobox needs to be made, as I find this one tries to cover too many things at once. Jolly Ω Janner 00:03, 25 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I would have thought such a syntax would have been implemented when the change was enacted, I was under the impression it was up to those making such a change to ensure compatibility before making such a change, clearly not. Also highest winds parameter default for km/h doesn't really smack of an internationalised, genericised infobox.Lacunae (talk) 20:57, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
