Removed red links
[edit]I have remove the red links to brochs from this template. I suspect that it is partly my fault that they have crept on here, because I added some red-links earlier in the year - having set myself the task of creating some pages for well-known brochs (now finally done). This clearly encouraged some other people to add some more red-links. This includes the Broch of Houlland. I'm not sure which broch that is meant to be, since the RCAHMS lists two Shetland brochs by that name ([1], [2]). I've also removed this long list of "Sutherland" brochs:
- Achcoillenaborgie
- Allt an Duin
- Coill' Ach A' Chuill
- Dun Carnachadh
- Dun Chealamy
- Dun Viden
- Grumore
- Inshlampie
- Langdale
There are something like 500 brochs known, of which maybe 200 could have a page on Wikipedia. Most of them I guess are in Shetland, Orkney, and Caithness. It unbalances the template though to have random red links added to it - these red links have a tendency to hang around on templates for years and years, and nothing gets done. What we could do with on Wikipedia is a List of brochs. Anyway, I've moved these links here for now, and if anyone wants to create a page for any of them they have my best wishes. Comment on removed red links
Just to give you a heads up, we, Edinburgh Archaeology wikiclub, had placed most of those red-links in there for the same reason you did- setting ourselves the task to create articles for them. Understand the need to be tidy and what not. Just giving a heads up that we will be working on this for some time into the future so some more red-links might creep in but we fully intend to turn them into articles. - Oh I see, that explains it. I thought it was a bit odd that someone added a list of "Sutherland brochs". It would be nice to see these pages created, so don't let me put you off. Red links in templates tend to get frowned upon. Tell you what, I'll add "Caithness" and "Sutherland" as sub-categories of the "Highlands" part of the template, and if you or one of your colleagues wants to create pages on Sutherland brochs then there will be a sub-category to add them to. Brilliant! We are all pretty new to wikipedia so did not know about making subcategories. Thanks taught us something new.DougRM — Preceding undated comment added 09:42, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
