Abu'l-A'war, Banu Sulaym

[edit]
  • ... that the Sulaymi commander Abu'l-A'war led the Arabs to a major naval victory over the Byzantines in the Battle of the Masts? (Source: Amr b. Sufyan al-Sulami [Abu'l-A'war of Banu Sulaym] ... figured as a commander in several campaigns, especially naval ones, including ... the very significant victory over the emperor Constans II off Lycia in 34/655 [Battle of the Masts]. Khalid Yahya Blankinship, p. 91, n. 502, in the History of al-Tabari, Vol. 11)
    • ALT1:... that Abu'l-A'war continued to fight the Islamic prophet Muhammad even after his Banu Sulaym tribe joined the Muslims? (Source: in Sha'ban 8/January 630, the Sulaym or most of them were already on his [Muhammad's] side. Several weeks later, the Sulaym participated in the battle of Hunayn with the exception of Abu'l-A'war, who fought with the pagans Michael Lecker, p. 818, in the "Sulaym" article of the Encyclopedia of Islam, New Edition, vol. 9)

5x expanded by Al Ameer son (talk). Self-nominated at 20:44, 14 December 2016 (UTC).

  • A QPQ review appears to be needed before this can move forward. North America1000 18:37, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
  • @Al Ameer son: These two articles are both new enough. Banu Sulaym is a fivefold expansion but Abu'l-A'war is slightly too short, having been expanded from 1252B to 5961B, about 300B too short. Both hooks have inline citations in the Abu'l-A'war article and either could be used, however I prefer the original hook. The articles are neutral and I am unable to assess whether there are any plagiarism or close paraphrasing issues because of lack of access to the sources. • Thanks for the review @Cwmhiraeth:. I'll expand the Abu'l-A'war article and update you. --Al Ameer (talk) 19:18, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
  • @Cwmhiraeth: I've edged it just past the 5x expansion mark. I'll continue to work on the article though. --Al Ameer (talk) 18:52, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
  • Both articles are now long enough. Ready to go with the original hook. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:34, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
