1884 AA season changes:

  • Two teams join from minor leagues: Brooklyn Atlantics and Toledo Blue Stockings
  • Two teams are enfranchised: Indianapolis Hoosiers and Washington Nationals.
  • Washington Nationals fold mid-season and are replaced with minor league Richmond Virginians.
  • Cincinnati Red Stockings, New York Metropolitans, and Pittsburgh Alleghenys move from Bank Street Grounds, Polo Grounds, and Exposition Park to American Park, Metropolitan Park, and Recreation Park, respectively.
  • New York Metropolitans would move back to Polo Grounds later in second half of season.
