I have removed the category Chechen Terrorists. Yandarbiyev may have been a radical muslim but the claim that he was a terrorist needs a reliable reference before it can be applied to him.ForrestSjap 20:28, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Lead

Right now the lead doesn't mention his militant/terrorist activities at all, although they are an important part of his biography. They definitely should be included. Right now if one reads only the lead, it gives the impression that GRU killed him for no reason. This must be fixed. Offliner (talk) 09:52, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

The lead is pretty much non-existent, your addition made it look very biased and unbalanced. His militant activities amounted to political support, he was never a commander but always a politician. That Russia said he was a terrorist is irrelevant in the sense that they always called every chechen militant a terrorist, including those that received asylum in the west. It would be the same as going over to the article of the president of South Ossetia or Abkhazia, or former president, and adding something like "Georgia considered this man a dangerous terrorist". I don't think you would like that either. That's hardly an improvement, and instead amounts to WP:POINT and WP:MORALIZE, the last one an important addition to WP:LEAD as well. Yandarbiyev wasn't just a regular seperatist leader, but a recognized president too, who was invited over to the kremlin, met with Yeltsin and signed a peace treaty. I understand your concerns, but I reiterate, that the fact that he was wanted by Russia as a terrorist is simply something the man was notable for in the later years. It is almost the sole reason he was discussed in the mainstream media after 1997. From WP:LEAD: "The lead serves both as an introduction to the article below and as a short, independent summary of the important aspects of the article's topic. The lead should be able to stand alone as a concise overview of the article. It should establish context, explain why the subject is interesting or notable, and summarize the most important points—including any notable controversies that may exist." WP:LEAD also clearly refers to WP:MORALIZE. I have seen nothing that made me believe that he was solely discussed in the media for "terrorism". According to Qatar the assassination itself was an act of terror but you didn't include any of that. Anyway as I said the lead was pretty much non-existent and your addition did not help create a neutral and informative lead for Mr. Yandarbayev, it only pointed out allegations from the Russian government. If you want to add anything about the allegations in the lead let's first build a regular lead alright. It would have to be in historical perspective though, he wasn't always described as a terrorist by Russia since they did invite him to the Kremlin and regarded him as the president for all Chechens.
