What is so great about the Music Video?

Inspiration

[edit]

Apparently Idol was on "I Love the 80s", and he said that the inspiration for the song was that his little sister got pregnant at a young age and decided to marry the guy, which Billy was against, and that the song is supposed to indicate a general disgust for weddings.

Does that merit inclusion? DS 03:11, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it might be worth mentioning how the song is frequently misinterpreted and played at weddings, even though it's supposed to be an anti-wedding song. Michael24 21:23, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the above comments are right on target. The true meaning of this song needs to be mentioned, as so many people think it is about incest. What a horrible thing to have your song associated with, so the true meaning should be mentioned. --ATaylor0927 09:33, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the second verse there is a reference to a "faisal wish" (sp?), although some lyrics providers refer to it as a "hey little sister what's your 'vice and wish'". I remember reading that a "faisal wish" was like a "wish for your future" often associated with weddings but I cannot track it down. Any input on this? Am I imagining things? 75.69.5.169 (talk) 17:55, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I took out an unneeded link to a page about the name Courtney that was on a bastard line.

The song's about heroin guys. No, I can't be bothered proving it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.48.132.52 (talk) 07:54, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bleeding finger

[edit]

This is almost definitely in the wrong spot but I'm new at Wiki editing... But I've gone over YouTube and GoogleVids and everything and I've NEVER seen the ring ACTUALLY get put on her finger, nor any bleeding (re: line about how the girl insisted her finger actually be cut for realism's sake). Every site and person goes on about how iconic it was/is and how they'll never forget that scene, but every clip/version I've seen shows a quick camera zoom in on the ring itself, spliced in with some reaction shots from the bride. Does it exist? Could someone either A) Provide a link to the full video containing that clip, B) Post a screenshot of the act in question, or C) Remove the text referred to above? -N- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nymphdaen (talkcontribs) 15:18, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you can clearly see it in the uncensored version of the video. It is unspectacular though. I have not found this version on YouTube. This Magnet Link should help you to find the file: magnet:?dn=Billy+Idol+-+White+Wedding.mpg&kt=Billy+Idol+White+Wedding+mpg&xl=36444968&xt=urn:bitprint:TCWEEIPXY42UK7G73RMPZUTEZQOQIFBB.4SQQ73KTOTXE6I6QKAKVJT4BVAPIJHR4VF3M7RI

I've uploaded the very short sequence as slide show here. It looks more awkward in slow motion than the actual video. --217.87.59.203 01:34, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure when MTV is alleged to have removed that scene, because I remember seeing it every time the video was played, which was in heavy rotation.Mzmadmike (talk) 17:08, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I remember seeing it on MTV as well. The original video shows him putting a barbed wire ring on her finger and she bleeds. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.219.25.202 (talk) 04:29, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"white wedding" referring to slang for geting at coke for the second time?

[edit]

I've heard once "white wedding" is a slang for someone going cocaine again after having stopped it for some time. it also nicely explains "nice day to start again" line. However it might be a pure speculation.

"Start again" is a literal term for deciding to give up being clean and go back to using drugs. "Shotgun" is a drug term for exhaling the smoke from one a person's lungs into another person's mouth (while inhaling) to get a second "hit" and conserve product. "Little sister" is a direct reference to crack cocaine. "White" wedding is a reference to being addicted to crack cocaine. In other words, you are married to it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:247:4100:D620:2C1A:4A43:2181:5375 (talk) 00:23, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone give any definite information on this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.140.139.36 (talk) 22:32, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting point. I heard the term used in this way a couple of years ago, although I'm sure it was a play on the song rather than the origonal inspiration for the song. I could'nt find a source to back it up as the latter, but many songs are known have 'hidden' references to drugs like this (e.g. brown sugar by the stones, waiting for the sun by the doors etc.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.210.72.163 (talk) 09:15, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

just looking at the lyrics and it sure does seem this song is a reference to cocaine or some other drug. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.171.172.159 (talk) 12:08, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why Pt. 1?

[edit]

Can anyone explain why the song is suffixed "(pt. 1)"? And was there a part 2? What's the story? Jstohler (talk) 18:33, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is a much longer version that was released as a 12" single. But since the advent of CDs the 12" single is no more. But the pt. 1 is used to note that there is a much longer version in existence and this is the shortened version. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.219.25.202 (talk) 04:32, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I’d really like to know, which records hold both parts of that song. Somebody should add information about all release formats of both parts of that song (Maxi-singles, EPs etc.) and their track listings. --juhtolv (talk) 09:45, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

release date

[edit]

I've changed this from 1983 to October 1982 as listed in Girmarc's 'Punk DIary' and Strong's 'Great Rock Discography'. Vauxhall1964 (talk) 22:56, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Limerick connection

[edit]

OK.... I heard that this song was written for a cousin in Limerick Ireland....wasn't Billy's mother from Limerick ? Any truth to this ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.13.237.34 (talk) 06:45, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
