Swordswoman Riding West on White Horse → Baima Xiao Xifeng – or any other form of pinyin per WP:NC-CHINA. The current title is not used by any reliable sources used by one reliable source, but seldom used. There is alternative title White Horse Neighs in the Western Wind, but also seldom used. And official English edition of the novel has not been done ever. Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 12:35, 4 August 2014 (UTC) George Ho (talk) 01:39, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Pinyin names for novels should be capitalised per WP:PINYIN ("English Wikipedia uses pinyin as the default Romanisation method for Chinese characters") and, as Section 4.9.2 in this source points out, pinyin title caps are the same as English. — AjaxSmack 04:22, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- I have to agree with AjaxSmack on this. This is the practice per DeFrancis, ed. ABC Chinese-English Dictionary and wikipedia capitalization guidelines. --Cold Season (talk) 20:15, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Comment I'm curious where this title came from since it's not a translation of the original title. It has to come from somewhere! BTW, it should be "Bai ma xiao xi feng" if anything. Timmyshin (talk) 03:26, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- The current title is commonly used on internet sites even though there is not translation. See this list for such titles. White Horse Neighing in the West Wind is also sometimes used. — AjaxSmack 04:22, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- There's no basis for "Bai ma xiao xi feng"; it's contrary to both pinyin orthography and appearance in sources.--Cold Season (talk) 20:15, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Are there any reliable sources for the proposed title? — AjaxSmack 04:22, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
One TwoThree sources use "baima xiao xifeng", like this one and that one. --George Ho (talk) 05:25, 27 July 2014 (UTC)- There is Baima siao sifeng. --George Ho (talk) 05:36, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Clearly wrong/typo. Timmyshin (talk) 19:53, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Update - I capitalized the whole pinyin title, i.e. changed from "x" to "X". --George Ho (talk) 20:19, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Mild oppose in principle I don't think pinyin for novel title is a good idea, especially with novels who have been adopted multiple times on TV. It seems like the 1982 TV series is known as "The Return of Swords Lady Riding West on White Horse" in English -- at least this Korean site, who somehow archived a short clip and a Korean VCR cover, claims so. I'm leaning towards adopting that title, even if it seems a little cumbersome.Timmyshin (talk) 00:38, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
- ...Can you propose it immediately when this discussion is closed? --George Ho (talk) 01:48, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
- That's a title that I would certainly oppose, because there's no authority for that in a roughly translated title of Korean summary of a Chinese TV series based on the literary work. The pinyin would remain a better option than that. --Cold Season (talk) 21:16, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

- Support the title Baima Xiao Xifeng, because a transliteration is in usage as shown in the provided sources and an established English common name is absent. --Cold Season (talk) 21:26, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose. After waiting for the discussion to unfold, I have yet to see any evidence that the pinyin title is more common or widely known than the English titles. The examples given above by the nominator show the pinyin as a transliteration of the Chinese characters, not as standalone titles and, in one case, the pinyin is given as a parenthetical to an English title. I don't see the benefit for Wikipedia, as a general reference, to replace an admittedly problematic English title with a problematic one that is not in English. — AjaxSmack 02:54, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

Swordswoman Riding West on White Horse → White Horse Neighs in the Western Wind – The current title is used by the 2009 book, but there are no other reliable sources. This article was created in 2006, so probably we should stick to older sources that use different English title. The proposed English title is seldom used, as well. Nevertheless, it stays true to the original title (白馬嘯西風). Two sources use the proposed title; however, one uses indefinite article ("A") and other uses definite article ("The"). I will not encourage using either; ugh... the memories of Talk:Trollhunter. The following guidelines (WP:NC-ZH, WP:NCUE, and WP:NC-B) encourage romanized titles, but the pinyin title that I proposed was not well-supported. These guidelines also encourage commonly-used titles, but neither English title is commonly used. Worse, the novel has not yet been officially published in English. WP:UE (policy) encourages pinyin implicitly, but, again, pinyin title was not well-supported. If you are reading this, I may be oblivious on which policy or guideline applies. However, if no related rule is found, then let's apply WP:IAR, okay? Relisted Calidum Talk To Me 02:41, 21 August 2014 (UTC) George Ho (talk) 05:41, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
- Mild Support The current title is not a true translation. Timmyshin (talk) 20:00, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
- Support, to achieve the most correct translation of the title. bd2412 T 15:34, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
