How was it cut ?

Citation for wide use on 4.5" and larger caliber guns

How would one go about even finding a citation for the wide use of this design on 4.5" and larger caliber guns? I think finding a reasonable number of guns that use this mechanism would be reasonable, but that just proves those guns use it. Perhaps it should be reworded?
